As-salaamu'alaykum
As happened often during Umar's caliphate, a shipment of wealth arrived in Madeenah, and the duty of distributing that wealth fell on the shoulders of the Khaleefah, Umar ibn al-Khattab. Upon learning about the shipment, Hafsah, the Mother of the Believers, said to Umar,
"O Leader of the Believers, your relatives have a right to a portion of this wealth. Indeed, Allah - the Possessor of Might and Majesty - commanded that relatives be given a share of this wealth."
Umar replied,
"O my daughter, my relatives have a right to my personal wealth; as for this (well, that belongs to the Muslim Treasury), it must be paid to the general population of Muslim's. (In saying what you have just said) you have been unfaithful to your father and sincere to your relatives. Stand up (for it is time to end this discussion)."
