    Assalamu'alaikum,

To all American brothers and sisters,

Not sure whether it is against US laws, in my country there is no offence if a citizen abstain from casting his / her vote during general election.

If I'm in the position of giving a fatwa, I will make it haraam. But since I'm not in that position, I would like to urge all American Muslims to abstain voting in upcoming US Election on Nov 6.

Reason simply, whoever the new President is, he will:

    - continue to support Israel
    - if Romney is elected he may outdo his predecessor in supporting Israel
    - if Obama is re-elected, he may decide to attack an Islamic country as this is his last term, even war on Iran is not acceptable
    - indirectly, American Muslims would have endorsed Israel aggression and killing of innocents in Palestine
    - indirectly, American Muslims would have endorsed US aggression in score of Islamic countries e.g. Afghanistan, Pakistan etc
    - he will continue keeping silent about massacre on Muslims in Syria
    - he will likely going to be another war monger
    - overall there will be no dramatic change in foreign policy especially towards Islamic countries

There are more to say, I think you got my message.

I'm not stopping you exercise your right as American citizen, I request you please ponder a while and make a decision. Obama vs Romney, both are non-Muslims. Romney for example had slammed Obama for being weak in supporting Israel. Do you think they will do anything good to Muslims? Do you think they will stop killing Muslims everywhere? Unless Obama vs Muslim candidate they you may have option. History prove non of the American president was kind towards Islamic countries. So I don't see why Muslims in American should vote.

You entitle to your opinion and give me more clarity why you want to vote, which I may not know.

Please accept my apology if there is something which I've overlooked before asking you not to vote. This is just my opinion and I'm stand to be corrected.

    Assalaam alaikum,

I have been hounded almost every hour by the RNC and the DNC phoning me and asking me to vote. We have had people knocking on the door. I simply tell them I do not vote for evil.

I am in the minority. Most political action committees are asking Muslims to vote. And many are participating. And they have the absolute right to vote.

Me, well...what can I say. I loved Ron Paul. I did vote for him to get the Noble Peace Prize.

I am older. My priorities are different.

Each day I make a choice to do a simple good deed. And my choice on Nov. 6 will be to make salat.

    Salam alaykum

Have you there in elections only those two candidates? Can´t any other political parties nominate candidate?

If they can´t, I have to say your system looks quite... weird.

If Muslims do not vote, then no one will represent us. In the US, the only way to be recognized is by your ability to vote. If the Muslim citizens united and voted, then mayors, senators and governors will have no choice but to respect us and protect us. The recent spying incidents on Muslims and mosques by the NYPD could have been prevented if they knew we had a voice in their political system.

Thats basically what my Imam said during his khutba last Friday...

I was also hoping Ron Paul would make it to the top. Check out this video on Romney-Bush connection (everyone's feedback would be nice:) ) :

I would vote for the lesser of two evils. As evil as Obama is and his drone bombings and terrorizing the innocents, he may be lesser evil than this romney guy who is a blind puppet of israel. But then again I don't see any point of voting, it is only a farce to fool the public into thinking they have power and democracy. The electoral votes decide who will be the president.

The Electoral College is the institution that officially elects the President and Vice President of the United States every four years. The electors are chosen by each state of the United States and by the District of Columbia. On Election Day, the voters in each State choose the Electors by casting votes for the presidential candidate of their choice. Although no elector is required by federal law to honor a pledge, in the overwhelming majority of cases each elector votes as pledged. Critics argue that the Electoral College is inherently undemocratic and gives swing states disproportionate influence in electing the President and Vice President. Proponents argue that the Electoral College is an important, distinguishing feature of federalism in the United States and that it protects the rights of smaller states. Numerous constitutional amendments have been introduced in the Congress seeking to alter the Electoral College or replace it with a direct popular vote.

So in other words. Regardless of who you vote for, these electors represent each state and they vote their own votes and president and v.p are elected based on those. There is over whelming evidence of election fraud that was going on during Bush's 2nd term election. His goons were miscounting the ballets and even counting the ballets of one party as part of the other party. Now everything is digitized so it's even easier to manipulate the data and declare a winner based on popular "vote". So I don't really see the point of voting.

As for war on Iran and pakistan, they will happen. So will other turmoil in the Muslim world. All of this is paving the way for the coming of the Mahdi. The hadith and signs are there and we are seeing it all unfold as foretold.

As for the ruling on the matter,
This is a matter concerning which rulings may differ according to different circumstances in different times and places. There is no absolute ruling that covers all situations, both real and hypothetical.

In some cases it is wrong to vote, such as when the matter will have no effect on the Muslims, or when the Muslims have no effect on the outcome of the vote. In this case voting or not voting is all the same. The same applies in cases where all the candidates are equally evil or where they all have the same attitude towards Muslims

It may be the case that the interests of Islam require Muslims to vote so as to ward off the greater evil and to reduce harmful effects, such as where two candidates may be non-Muslims but one of them is less hostile towards Muslims than the other, and Muslims votes will have an impact on the outcome of the election. In such cases there is nothing wrong with Muslims casting their votes in favour of the less evil candidate.

In any case, this is the matter of ijtihaad based on the principle of weighing up the pros and cons, what is in the interests of Islam and what is detrimental. With regard to this matter, we have to refer to the people of knowledge who understand this principle. We should put the question to them, explaining in detail the circumstances and laws in the country where the Muslim community is living, the state of the candidates, the importance of the vote, the likely benefits, and so on.

No one should imagine that anyone who says that it is OK to vote is thereby expressing approval or support for kufr. It is done in the interests of the Muslims, not out of love for kufr and its people. The Muslims rejoiced when the Romans defeated the Persians, as did the Muslims in Abyssinia (Ethiopia) when the Negus defeated those who had challenged his authority. This is well known from history. Whoever wants to be on the safe side and abstain from voting is allowed to do so. This response applies only to elections for influential positions.

    And Allaah knows best.

    Brother Abd_Al_Hadi,

I agree Muslims in US should participate in local elections. The topic here is, should American Muslims vote for US Presidency? If every American Muslims abstain from voting, it will also send signal to the candidates on why Muslims are boycotting and they will try their best to pull back the Muslims into the ballot boxes. Given to the current fierce campaigning between Obama and Romney, I believe both can't effort to lose every single votes. When they come to the Muslims, then the Muslims should lay out their demand for votes.

No brother! Its actually the opposite. If one group doesn't vote, that only means less work for the candidate. The middle class has the highest percentage of voters. That is exactly why in almost all of their speeches, candidates focus on seducing the middle class.

Brother, are you American? I appreciate your replies, at the same time hope to hear more from American. Perhaps the system work differently in US compared to Malaysia. In Malaysia, every votes are like giving money to the beggars. However, the Jewish community is also minority voters, why the the presidential candidates are seducing them if they will bring no significant effect to the results? Whether Muslims vote will influence the result or not, morally no Muslims should vote Barack Obama or Paul Romney knowing well they will continue monkeying in Islamic countries.

I did early voting as I always do. I do think where I live in California, Obama will take the state and the electoral votes so the state and local elections are more important and need to be voted on. In California there are 11 ballot measures that are up for a vote. I believe in voting, especially in local and state elections where your vote does make a difference.

    Assalaam alaikum,

In the US there is no direct voting for the president. We have and the sister tried to explain this crazy thing called the electoral college. The candidate who gets the most direct votes in a state then gets the state to have the electoral votes for him. You have population issues. A state with a large population has more electoral votes. And then it becomes an additon issue. A candidate may win 51% to 49% but all the electoral votes will be given to him.

You have more than two candidates but they will never win. It is a money thing. Sad thing is that the two major parties are the same coin.

Obama is not the lesser of two evils. He is a bisexual.

    Assalaamualaikum..
Sorry for taking it off the topic.. As am not much of a politics fan.. I have very poor knowledge about it.

Why is US soo terribly behind Islamic Countries? Why is Isreal behind Islamic Countries? I know the Quran says Jews and Christains are not friends of Muslims.. But on reality basis, why are they behind us? Why can't they just mind their own country and live peacefully?

    Peace :)

I should add that no state will have less then 3 Electoral votes since they are based on the two Senate seats and at least one minimum House of Representative seat.

    Brother,

Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) till you follow their religion. [Al-Baqarah, 2:120]

If America and Israel and their allies stop persecuting Islam, the above ayah will be become irrelevant. Qur'an is relevant until qiamah, so what Qur'an said will surely happen.

I knew that was coming. :) I do agree with what you said brother..
But my question was -> what do they really want with us? why are they hell-bent in breaking Muslims/Islamic countries apart? Can't they just mind their own country first?

    Assalaam alaikum,

    Two thoughts.

    1. Sister Shak78...please explain to the forum what the electoral college is and how they tabulate the votes. Sister Harb the Green Party, the Communist Party and the Libertarian Party have candidates but they have few followers thus in the process their votes are turned over to the electoral college.

    2. What do the Jews and Christians have against Muslims. Simple. As long as there are Muslims everyone knows that Islam is the religion Allah subhana wa taala has decreed as His Religion. They are the ones who have changed the Words of Allah or gone astray. Believers are a reminder, a constant reminder, of that simple fact.

They want to subjugate us. We are living facts that there is the Reality of Allah subhana wa taala. And as long as there are Believers we will fight for Sharia. The law that Allah subhana wa taala has given us is timeless, fair and just, and for all of mankind.

I found this. It is ten minutes long:http://poorrichards-blog.blogspot.fr/2012/11/blog-post_5.html

My dear sister I would be glad to, I can let my inner nerd run wild! Each state in the Electoral College is granted on vote per Senator (2 per state no matter the size) and 1 per Representative (this is based on the population of the state.) So states like California, Texas, Florida have a lot of Electoral Votes with California having the most at 55. With the exception of 2 states, which ever candidate wins the popular vote is give that states Electoral votes. There are 528 electoral votes up for grab and to win you have to get 270 votes. Win the state, win the votes. The overall popular vote in the end has nothing to do with who wins, you can win the popular vote a still lose due to the Electoral College. In Maine and Nebraska the electoral votes of that state are not winner takes all, they are distributed by who wins each congressional district so a candidate would pick up a couple votes here and there.

The Electoral College is an outmoded way of electing a President but it has yet to be abolished. In states like California which 99% of the time goes Democratic or Texas which also 99% of the time goes Republican the candidates of the opposite party rarely spend any time or money since it is futile, they concentrate on swing states like Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania ect.

    Assalaam alaikum,

Something needs to be done with the telephones. I know I received at least five phone calls this morning from the RNC. I even had Pat Boone call!! Right.
This election is running close to $50 million. What a waste.

I live in a swing state. I am going to watch the circus. Traditionally Virginia is Republican. I just think we need to make the capital Richmond and go back to the CSA.

I do hope that Washington, Oregon and Colorado get the go-ahead on the legalization issues. I am in favor of state rights over the greedy federal body that is out of control.

    We need to abolish Congress.

Here is a link in case there is a tie; each candidate getting 269 votes:http://www.slate.com/blogs/spitzer/...es_the_next_president_and_vice_president.html
