Its interesting to see a few people who are not on the list. Among powerful financial families members are missing from-

The American Walton Family (owners of the store Wal Mart)
The Kennedys
The Du Ponts
The Rothschilds
The Bush Family
The Rockefeller Family

Among individuals (as political advisors), the following do not appear

Dick Cheney
Donald Rumsfield
Daniel Pipes
Tony Blair

While I recognise wealth does not mean or equate power and vice versa, there are aspects of authority and respect that are given and accorded to different individuals, families and dynasties that allows them to influence and exercise jurisdictional leverage over international affairs.

The Rothschilds for example traditionally control a given country through the national bank of that nation. George Bush Sr, while no longer US president for over twenty years, still serves as advisor, active member and lobbyist for international organisations that write reports with suggestions, directives and legislation to developing world governments. Tony Blair and Daniel Pipes, despite being Zionists, serve as 'Mid East Peace Advisors' and are partially responsible for proposals to the Palestinians, setting conditions for peace and for condemning defence of Palestinians in general. Donald Rumsfield, due to his political and military connections, has friends and influences among the Neo Conservative Right in the US, and as one their many representatives, has a controlling stake in American corporate interests above global social concerns.

Among those who are on the list, its further revealing to see someone from the lower end of the top ten wealthiest nations (Putin of Russia), take the prize as the world's most powerful individual. While his own wealth is astoundingly immense, his country's political and financial elite; the oligarchies representing a growing figure of corrupt billionaires and amazingly wealthy and families loyal to Putin show the latter is at least above Russia's most powerful non governmental power structure, compared to Obama who isn't.

While Russia's GDP is still $14 trillion less than the US, it is still a command performer in facilitating its own preservation, interests and world policy both within its own frontiers and towards those nations closest to its borders.

I agree, the Rothschilds are one such family who don't declare their wealth, prestige or power, but occasionally you will see from memoirs of 'out of the bubble' members; that is either those who refuse to shy away from public remarks about the family's influence or those ostracised and disowned by the dynasty itself.

If I can just say a few words about the powerful Rockefeller Family and their financial strength quoting just example to show how immensely strong they are as a global power. The Rockefeller family was also among the first to travel to Saudi Arabia for oil and created 'Standard Oil'; a firm that is there to this day, albeit under a new name.

They are owners of the IBEC (International Basic Economy Corporation) which operates mainly in South America. Newsweek had the following to say about its structure and foundation in the 1960s and 70s.

"It is a company 'dedicated to the then [in 1948] unheard-of idea that private enterprise could help improve economic conditions in less developed countries and make money in the process.'

It continues...

"We have made money by meeting human needs in an efficient, business like way.... over the past ten years our total revenue has nearly tripled and our stockholders equity ore tan doubled."

"Chairman [of IBEC] Donald Meads feels that 'many American firms have little idea of the opportunities in the underdeveloped world. This is the universe from which we pick most of our projects. Its a great opportunity for us."

Rodman Rockefeller was quoted as saying, 'We have long operated in economic sectors such as agribusiness where demand and supply are political and economic questions, with the result that public needs become an important part of the decision making process'.

He further suggested, "In the future, business will profit by assuming a more aggressive leadership role as an innovative force capable of exercising social judgement, consciously initiating change and shaping the overall environment."

The author of 'How the Other Half dies; The Real Reason for World Hunger' added her interpretation to the above quotation-

"Even the 'social-uplift' company [in this instance, the Rockefellers] assumes it has a right to make any change it cares to, and that shaping the overall environment is its own concern, not that of the host country."

In short, the multi national company of today and especially the powerful financial families operate as a quasi government on its own. They have or exercise political rights with the legal jurisdiction of international agencies and its own nation [in most cases the US] to supersede the country's sovereignty, territory, natural resources, indigenous population, local market and all economic factors [including avoidance of taxation to the host country] to which it has contracts.

The above quotations were taken from the 1970s; over forty years has since passed and the dreams of that period have since been realised with the proliferation of wealthy families now controlling the economies of numerous developing world nations.

As for those who do not expect to meet Us and are content with the life of the world and at rest in it, and those who are heedless of Our Signs, their shelter will be the Fire because of what they earned. (Surah Yunus: 7-8)
