ABU DHABI: Dense fog continued to wreak havoc on traffic movement on roads across the Emirates.

Meanwhile, 35 cars were involved in a major car-pile up on the Dubai bypass near Academic City on Tuesday morning.

Eleven people, according to Dubai Police sources, were injured, five seriously, in the mishap.

Also, the police said there were 418 traffic-related emergency calls between 5am and 8am.

Fog covered different parts of the country on Tuesday morning, including Menhad area on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road, where horizontal visibility dropped to 50 metres.

Meanwhile, fog formation in Jebel area and all areas in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, led to visibility declining to 100 metres. Also Al Hamrah and Zafra areas experienced low level of horizontal visibility for 1,200 metres.

Dubai and Sharjah were not spared the inclement weather as medium to heavy fog blanketed different areas of the two emirates, leading horizontal visibility to drop to 200 metres as it continued to escalate for 6 hours from 3am till it gradually diminished by 9am, according to the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology.

Flights hit

Due to the fog formation on Tuesday morning, the competent authorities at the Dubai International Airport had to divert flights to neighboring airports, in case of those planes, which were not fully equipped to land in such circumstances. Meanwhile, the Dubai airport also received two flights that were diverted from other airports.

Official sources form Fly Emirates, confirmed that none of their flights were diverted on Tuesday, but only some flights delayed for some time because of the fog.

Met forecast

Sources at the centre predicted that fog formation would continue on Wednesday in different areas in the country, particularly the external roads, where level of horizontal visibility would be low. Sources at the centre called road users to take the required measures and adhere to the traffic instruction during such circumstances to ensure public safety.

Weather on Wednesday is expected to be hot during daytime, cool by night and partially cloudy at times on some eastern areas, sources said. The winds will be light to moderate and brisk at times in the afternoon, they added. Sea is expected to be calm, while relative humidity is expected to increase, sources added. The maximum temperature on Wednesday are expected to reach 36°C in Al Ain, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman, 35°C in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and 34°C in Dubai and Fujairah.

In an accident, two vehicles were completely charred on a bypass road near the Al Ain exit, heading to Dubai.

A car hit a pickup and both vehicles caught fire.

14 injured in 35-car pile-up in Dubai

Drivers urged to take caution after pile-up on Dubai road injures 14

Dubai: A 35-car pile-up caused by the fog on Dubai Bypass Road on Tuesday morning resulted in three moderate and 11 simple injuries and left two cars burnt and 10 severely damaged, according to Dubai Police.

Brigadier Omar Abdullah Al Shamsi, Director of the Control Centre in Dubai Police’s Operations Room, said that the pile-up resulted due to motorists' speeding, failing to leave a safe distance between cars and reckless driving in this adverse weather condition.

The fog on Monday caused five severe accidents, two moderate ones and 47 minor accidents resulted in several injuries.

The control room received over 418 calls from 5am until 8am on Tuesday, while 391 calls were received during the same period on Monday, Brig Al Shamsi said

He urged drivers to take caution while driving in fog, which mostly occurs between midnight and early morning, and not to use their hazard lights except to alert other drivers that there’s an accident.

Motorists should stop outside the road in case of extremely low visibility, and avoid stopping on the road or the hard shoulder as it may cause other cars to crash into them, he added.

They should also use the dipped light because high beams reflect on the water drops in the fog and reduce visibility.

Keeping a safe distance is of extreme importance during adverse weather conditions to allow a driver to control his car in case of sudden stop, he said, adding that it is best to check the weather forecast before embarking to be prepared for any surprises on the road.

Brig Al Shamsi urged residents to call the emergency number 999 only in urgent cases and to use the number 901 instead for any questions or information

Fog to continue until weekend!
Forecasters urge motorists to take extra care on roads,Foggy about use of hazard lights.

Al Ain: Foggy conditions across the UAE are likely to persist until the weekend, with forecasters expecting an increase in humidity and a gradual fall in night-time temperatures.

The fog, especially late at night and early in the morning, means drivers have to be extra careful and forecasters have advised them to follow traffic police advice to avoid accidents.

Many areas in Dubai, Sharjah, and desert areas, including parts of Al Ain, were Monday enveloped in dense fog that reduced visibility to less than 500 metres.

Ahmad Sajwani, an Emirati meteorologist, said October is known for its foggy conditions due to contrasting day and night temperatures, the high level of humidity, clear skies, and non-windy conditions. Clear skies at night help moist air cool down and reach condensation point rapidly.

‘Visibility problem'

"Fog can be considered as ground-level cloud that can cause a severe visibility problem in the affected areas," he said. Sajwani expects windy conditions by the end of this week that will reduce the fog.

The weather has returned to normal after a period of rain last week. Milder weather is expected over the Arabian Peninsula in general. "A stagnant high pressure is expected to start building up that might not fade away until at least October 20," he said.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said it will be relatively hot today, becoming partly cloudy at times over some eastern areas. It will be mild and humid tonight.

Winds will be light to moderately rough but could gain speed by the afternoon. There is a chance of fog in coastal and internal areas at night and early this morning. The maximum temperature is expected to rise to 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to drop to 24 degrees.

greeting,

My suggestion,
Maybe they can get a good air sucking system like a vacuum to suck the bad air and filter them into fresh and good clearer air.
Insya'allah!
