New Revert 2010
As Salamu 'Alayakum,
I enjoy listening to Yusuf Estes and I heard him mention that individuals who enjoying reading Psalms and Proverbs will probably enjoy reading Sunnah and Hadith. What are these and are they available in book form? If so, where?
I mentioned to a neighbor that I was reverting to Islam. His reply was, "that's all we need is another 'Mohammadian' in town." So, I reckon there are other practicing Muslims in this little town. This area where I spent nearly all of my first 16 years of life was one of the few towns that had African Americans and a very few Latinos in the fifties and sixties. I know the larger cities to the South and North do have Muslim Communities; however, I think the Muslims in this town are part of the Nation of Islam. And, although I am approximately thirty percent American Indian, my blue eyes and freckles and reddish hair when sun bleached make me look Celtic instead of American Indian. Consequently, although Malcolm X received the awareness that a Muslim is a Muslim is a Muslim regardless of his race or native language, my experience with individuals from The Nation of Islam has not been positive. I have a few Sikh friends who are doctors and my wife's doctor is a Muslim, but he is 50 miles away.
I would love to have a knowledgeable brother or elder who could help me learn how to practice Islam; however, in the mean time, Insha Allah, I will continue to study on my own. Alhamdulillah, I injured my eye and am having pain when reading. I hope it is a temporary thing Insha Allah.
