As Salamu 'Alayakum,

I enjoy listening to Yusuf Estes and I heard him mention that individuals who enjoying reading Psalms and Proverbs will probably enjoy reading Sunnah and Hadith. What are these and are they available in book form? If so, where?

I mentioned to a neighbor that I was reverting to Islam. His reply was, "that's all we need is another 'Mohammadian' in town." So, I reckon there are other practicing Muslims in this little town. This area where I spent nearly all of my first 16 years of life was one of the few towns that had African Americans and a very few Latinos in the fifties and sixties. I know the larger cities to the South and North do have Muslim Communities; however, I think the Muslims in this town are part of the Nation of Islam. And, although I am approximately thirty percent American Indian, my blue eyes and freckles and reddish hair when sun bleached make me look Celtic instead of American Indian. Consequently, although Malcolm X received the awareness that a Muslim is a Muslim is a Muslim regardless of his race or native language, my experience with individuals from The Nation of Islam has not been positive. I have a few Sikh friends who are doctors and my wife's doctor is a Muslim, but he is 50 miles away.

I would love to have a knowledgeable brother or elder who could help me learn how to practice Islam; however, in the mean time, Insha Allah, I will continue to study on my own. Alhamdulillah, I injured my eye and am having pain when reading. I hope it is a temporary thing Insha Allah.

salaam,

may Allah make ur path towards Him and His paradise easy. ameen.

Quran - Word of Allah.

Hadith/sunnah - sayings of prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him). they have been collected and preserved by various scholars. the famous 6 books are Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, An Nisai and Tirmidhi. first two are most authentic books on hadith.

* Nation of Islam is not an Islamic group. they are not muslims. their beliefs are totally out of Islam. they are near to polytheism/hinduism than Islam. eg. Allah came in the person of W. D. Fard (we seek refuge in Allah from this blasphemy), elijah was prophet, blacks are superior....all this is anti-Islam.

as you are new, you can focus on basics on Islam. pls dont fall into various sects of Islam. just stick to Quran and sunnah.

you can download Quran in english, hadith, books for non-muslims/new muslims frm www.islamicbulletin.com.

1. first learn about basic beleifs in Islam
2. start doing 5 pillars of Islam - prayers, etc.
3. stop all the *donts* of Islam

it's the deeds and sayings of the porphet Muhmmad (pbuh). hadith is effectively part of the revelation as it says in the Quran that whatever the prophet gives you take it and whatever he forbids you abstain from it.

there are many scholars who devoted their lives collecting and compiling hadith. Hadith compilation is a science on its own as these sayings come down to us via a chain of narrators leading up to the prophet's closest companions. However our life was made easy by the early scholars who collected these hundreds of thousands of narrations and ranked them according to their authenticity. The best books on Sahih (authentic) hadith are sahih bukari and sahih muslim.

Waalaykummusalam wa rahmatullah,

Brother, InshaAllaah I really believe that Allaah's help will be there. As long as you put trust in Allaah the All-Knower (and I know you do) who knows everything that you are going through, Allaah will surely help you.

Remember Allaah's promise which can put strengths and peace in your heart that:

"O you who believe! If you help (in the cause of) Allaah, he will help you, and make your foothold firm." 47:7

Just want to share.
It is also important for us Muslims to always be reminded of our main purpose in life. So one of the ways is to ensure ourself to be engage in a group (mainly known as Halaqah or Usrah thats consists around 5 to 7 people but it depends though on the groups) where they will share matters regarding our deen, reminding each other and building ukhuwaah among them. InshaAllaah that way, you will remember what you have forgotten and learn new things from the brothers in the halaqah. During the time Prophet Muhammad's sallallahu a'laihi wa salam secret da'wah, he used to do Halaqah at the house of Al Arqam bin Abi Al Arqam.

InshaAllaah I pray that may Allaah gives us strength to do our own jihaad in life especially to newly revert brothers and sisters and also us who has been Muslims since birth but are still trying to learn deeply on our deen and to those who face a hard time to practice the true Islam due to the 'ignorance' of people around them.

Jazakallahu khair kathiran. May Allaah reward us all with abundance of goodness.

Waa'laykummusalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

other arguments of hadeeth rejectors.

A critical analysis of modernists and hadith rejectors

A brief overview of the Book:

Ilmul-Kalaam (argumentation based on Greek philosophy) is among such innovations in the religion that created intellectual schisms in the Muslim nation and initiated deviant trends. One of the sects that indulged in Ilmul-Kalaam were the Mu'tazilah. They gave precedence to intellect over the revealed texts of the Qur'aan and the Sunnah - when they perceived the two conflicted. This attitude set an evil precedent for all later groups who sought to make intellect and desire decisive over the Qur'aan and the Sunnah. In this book, we shall critique such modernist groups that attempt to impose novel interpretations upon Islamic teachings.

Insha'Allah, we shall critically analyze the Modernists, beginning by understanding the deviations of the Mu'tazilah sect. We shall see with examples;

a) the rejection of Kalaam by the scholars and Imams of the Muslims,

b) the turmoil that the Mutazilah brought upon the Islamic world as a result of their Kalaam and,

c) the ill-effects of philosophy on pious and knowledgeable scholars who indulged in it and later abandoned it.

We shall study the views of the 'Muslim' rationalists (al-Aqlaniyah), a group that emerged towards the end of the colonial era and found intellectual nourishment in the views of the Mutazilah.
We shall see in this booklet the close resemblance between Christian and Jewish Modernists on one hand, and the 'Muslim' modernist and progressives on the other.

We shall analyze the views that have become the hallmark of the Modernist call and expose their remoteness from Islam.

Lastly, we shall comment on the most outrageous antics of present-day 'progressives', expose their hatred for Islamic teachings and report on the complete failure of their call.

The second section of this booklet deals with the misguidance of rejecting Hadeeth as this is another malady afflicting all Mu'tazili influenced groups whether the Modernists, the Progressives, the Secularists or the pseudo-Islamists. The refutation focuses upon analyzing the views of three prominent rejecters of Hadeeth; Rashad Khalifah, Ghulam Parvez and Amin Ahsan Islahi.

The two sections of the book greatly complement each other as the modernists and the hadeeth rejecters are two sides of the same coin.

All in all, this booklet should provide a good overview towards understanding the many misguided views that emanate from varied groups influenced by the Mu'tazilah.
