What is the ruling on women wearing high heels?

Wearing high heels is not permissible because it exposes women to the risk of falling, and we are commanded in sharee’ah to avoid danger in a general sense,
as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

    “And do not kill yourselves”
    [al-Nisa’ 4:29]

“and do not throw yourselves into destruction”
    [al-Baqarah 2:195]

It also makes women look taller than they really are and makes their posteriors appear more prominent, and this is a kind of deception and showing the adornments which the believing woman is forbidden to show,
as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam)”

    [al-Noor 24:31]

    From Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, Majallat al-Buhooth, 9/46.

Moreover, it also makes a woman lean forward (maa’ilah ila al-amaam), so there is the fear that the warning issued to those women who walk with an enticing gait (al-maa’ilaat al-mumilaat) may apply to her too [in the hadeeth which says that such women will never even smell the fragrance of Paradise from afar]. It also harms the back, as has been proven medically. The heels also make a sound which attracts the attention of men and is a temptation to them. We ask Allaah to keep us all safe and sound.

    :salam2:

Jazakallah khair for sharing brother :)

Another reason I would say they are not permitted is because of the noise they make when they are walked in. In general they make a louder noise than flat shoes and women should avoid anything that attracts attention to them.

    Allah knows best.

    Salam :)

I dont know, dont you think its too specific? I mean there has been no clear law for "shoes".. Or I mean, us trying to relate to something and completely banning it? is it wise?

Also, If God wants us to not hurt ourselves.. then dont you think we should not practice sports? What I mean is we cant always just compare like that, because if we do, then see what we will reach?

Thank you btw good brother :)

salaam aleikum wa rahamtulahi wa barakatuh,

wearing high heels makes a woman walk sensual, your hips move more and your behind is more visible. I think you know for yourself that you are more beautiful with high heels than on flats. That is just what other people will see!

    Question:
What is the Islamic ruling in wearing shoes with high heels?.

    Answer:
    Praise be to Allaah.

At the very least it is makrooh,

Firstly because that involves deceit, as they are worn to make a woman look tall when she is not.

Secondly they pose a danger to the woman, as she may fall.

Thirdly they are harmful to a woman’s health, as has been stated by the doctors.

by the way, Saifudine? I was just wondering what your avatar is, because it's not alowed to have pictures of things with a soul in islam, did you know this? My sisters boyfriend (she's not a muslim) has a picture kind of like yours and would say it was Ali a.s or our beloved prophet saws. He is a shia (ahudu billah)

    Do really wanna paradise ?

    salam Alaykum,sister,

    Allah saied:

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, headcover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”

    [al-Noor 24:31]

    =================================

sister, in All ur life keep this hadeeth in ur mind..

This is a saheeh hadeeth which was narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh from the Prophet :saw:(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) who said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men in whose hands are whips like the tails of cattle, with which they beat the people, and women who are clothed yet naked, maa’ilaat mumeelaat, with their heads like the humps of camels, tilted to one side. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance.” This is a stern warning to beware of the things referred to.

The men in whose hands are whips like the tails of cattle are those who beat the people unjustly, like police and others, whether that is done by order of the state or otherwise. The state is only to be obeyed with regard to matters that are right and proper. The Prophet :saw:(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Obedience is only with regard to what is right and proper.” And he :saw:(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience towards the Creator.”

With regard to the phrase “women who are clothed yet naked, maa’ilaat mumeelaat”, the scholars interpreted this as follows:

“kaasiyat ‘aariyaat (translated above as “clothed yet naked” may have another meaning, which is that they are enjoying the blessings of Allaah, but they do not give thanks for them and they do not obey the commands of Allaah or heed His prohibitions, even though Allaah has bestowed upon them wealth and other blessings.

The hadeeth is also explained in a different manner, which is that they wear clothes that do not cover them, because they are too thin or too short, so they do not serve the purpose of clothes, hence they are described as naked, and because the clothes they wear do not cover their ‘awrah.

Maa’ilaat (literally “deviant”) means they turn away from chastity and righteousness, i.e., they commit sins and evil deeds like those who do immoral actions, or they fall short in doing the obligatory duties, prayer etc.

Mumeelaat means they turn others away, i.e., they call people to evil and corruption, so by their words and actions they lead others into immorality and sin, and they commit immoral actions because of their lack of faith or the weakness of their faith. The point of this saheeh hadeeth is to warn against oppression and all kinds of corruption from men and women.

With regard to the phrase, “their heads are like the heads of camels, tilted to one side,” some of the scholars said that this means they make their heads look big because of the hairstyles they adopt and so on, so that it looks like the hump of a bakht camel. The bakht is a type of camel that has two humps between which there is a dip, so that one hump leans one way and the other leans the other way. When these woman make their heads look big in this way, they look like these humps.

With regard to the phrase, “They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance,” this is a stern warning; it does not necessarily mean that they are kaafirs or that they will abide in Hell forever, like other sinners who die as Muslims; rather what is meant is that they and other sinners are threatened with Hell for their sins, but they are subject to the will of Allaah. If He wills He will forgive them and if He will He will punish them. This is like the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, Allaah forgives not that partners should be set up with Him (in worship), but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He wills”

    [al-Nisa’ 4:48]

If a sinner (who is Muslim) enters Hell, he will not abide therein forever like the kuffaar, and those who will abide therein like murderers, adulterers and suicides will not abide therein forever like the kuffaar; rather it is an eternity which will have an end according to Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah – in contrast to the Khawaarij and Mu’tazilah and the innovators who follow their path, because the saheeh mutawaatir ahaadeeth narrated from the Messenger of Allaah :saw:(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) indicate that he will intercede for the sinners among his ummah and that Allaah will accept that intercession from him :saw:(peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) a number of times; each time He will specify a number who are to be brought forth from Hell. Similarly the rest of the Messengers, the believers and the angels will all intercede by Allaah’s leave, and He will accept their intercession for whomsoever He will among the believers in Tawheed who have entered Hell because of their sins but are Muslims. Then there will remain in Hell those sinners who are not included in the intercession of the intercessors, but Allaah will bring them forth by His Mercy and Kindness, and there will be none left in Hell but the kuffaar who will abide therein forever and ever.

Allaah says concerning the kuffaar (interpretation of the meaning):

“whenever it abates, We shall increase for them the fierceness of the Fire”

    [al-Isra’ 17:97]

“So taste you (the results of your evil actions). No increase shall We give you, except in torment”

    [al-Naba’ 78:30]

And He says concerning the kuffaar who worshipped idols (interpretation of the meaning):

“Thus Allaah will show them their deeds as regrets for them. And they will never get out of the Fire”

    [al-Baqarah 2:167]

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, those who disbelieve, if they had all that is in the earth, and as much again therewith to ransom themselves thereby from the torment on the Day of Resurrection, it would never be accepted of them, and theirs would be a painful torment.

They will long to get out of the Fire, but never will they get out therefrom; and theirs will be a lasting torment”

    [al-Maa'idah 5:36-37]

We ask Allaah to keep us safe and sound from being like them.

I go with the "this is too specific" approach on this one. Specially, with the "it is decietful, she will look taller than she really is" part.

I wear shoes, they make me look taller by a centimetre or two. I hope I'm not tricking anybody. What if I wear a jumper that is one size too big for me, it might make me look a bit bigger than I actually am.

    islam protect a Woman

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful

    [al-Noor 24:31]

Musilm Women obey Allaah command, and it is not permissible for them to go against what He says and disobey His command. Allaah has only commanded them to do this because there is great wisdom in it. Part of that wisdom is that it protects a woman’s honour from the “human wolves” who are looking for easy prey to attack and devour, and a morsel cannot be eaten unless it is prepared and ready – which is what we see in those woman who make a display of themselves, who by their appearance are calling those wolves to come and take whatever they want!

Confirmation of this is to be found in the words of Allaah (interpretation of the meaning):

“… That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed…” [al-Ahzaab 33:59]. If a woman covers herself, then immoral and corrupt men will know that this is not part of their prey, thus Allaah will protect them and take care of them.

Allaah and His Messenger :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) have issued a stern warning to women who make a display of themselves. An example of this is:

Abu Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allaah :saw: (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: a people with whips like the tails of cattle, with which they beat the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait and with their heads looking like the humps of camels, leaning to one side. They will not enter Paradise and will not even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such and such a distance.”

    (Narrated by Muslim, 2128).

A woman [or a man] should not try to comprehend Islamic rulings with her reason – which is unable to encompass the wisdom of sharee’ah. She should know that whatever Allaah has enjoined upon her contains nothing but goodness and happiness for her, her family and society as a whole. It is known that a woman’s uncovering her hair makes her more attractive to men, which could lead to them forming hopes about her and committing immoral actions. Islam wants society to be clean, with no provocation of desires, outrage or uncovering of women’s charms – which include their hair – which can lead to others being tempted by her and which opens the door to evil and its people.

We need to point out again that Islam means submitting to Allaah. The believer follows the command of Allaah even if he does not know the wisdom behind it or he does not find anything to convince his reason of it, because his obedience of his Lord and his submission to His command take priority over all other things, and worship is based on obedience and submission.

We ask Allaah to show us the truth and help us to follow it, and to show us falsehood and help us to avoid it.

    And Allaah knows best.

    Wa alaykum salaam

I agree with you guys, i think here its trying to explain not to wear heels which make noise as this is a form of attraction. It also makes the woman walk in sensual way as sis oem soufiane has stated above.

If a woman wearing heels walks past with clicking heels, men will look at her. But if she wearing flats they dont tend to look which is better for you....no..

Im not too sure on this one either....I dont think the problem is about looking taller....again i think its because of the noise from shoes/sandals...

If they have rubber on the heels then....no problem....i think you can wear them...

    Salam.

    About the heels topic:

I have read some good points, but I still think its being too specific and "narrow".

Well, maybe the extremely high and "fashionable" heels are not needed indeed.. but say, the other very short shoes that have heels? but not intended for "looking fashinable"? are they that decatend?

Also, IF, the woman wears it for "looking better and more fashinable" intentions, then this might be wrong..

Hmm ,I mean, arent shoes in general these days have some sort of heels?
I dont know.. thats what I think
    :)

ahh I dont know much about portraits and "human like" things?

My avtar is just a random drawing I made.. Not exactly meaning any prophet or close companions of the Prophet pbuh..

Then dont these have similarities? >>:salah: :arabi1: :girl3:  :astag: << I think they do..

    still not sure

    :salam2:

Of course i want jannah, i'm just not so sure about the shoe ruling.
The thing is.. you gonna see a shoe with high heels on them and i'm not talking about very high here (don't get me wrong) and at the same time they are not flat. The idea about the heels make your hips move, i think even wearing a flat shoe you can still move your hips, so it has nothing to do with the shoe. It is just the way you walk and your intentions. Bottom line.. if i'm wearing the right clothing (hijab) and not moving my hips lol, i think i'm safe.
If i said anything wrong :astag:

Insha'Allah you will get Jannah sister.

Also as I read the thread of brother Islamicfajr if I'm not wrong you didn't put the particular part of the Ayah brother: ...and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.24:31
I agree that even it seems that a lot of the women, even muslim are attracted towards those kind of shoes, to my opinion they are definitely a Fitnah, whether they're aware of it or not.
