Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in the world. To become Muslim, a person of any race or culture must say a simple statement, the shahadah, that bears witness to the belief in the One God and that Prophet Muhammad was the last prophet of God. ""
There are five pillars of practice in Islam. These practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim:
- 1-) Shahadah - Declaration of faith in the oneness of God and his last prophet.
- 2-) Formal prayer - Pray five times a day.
- 3-) Fasting - An act of willingly absenting food and drinks for a period of time.
- 4-) Charitable Giving - 2.5% of one's savings given to the needy at the end of each year.
- 5-) Pilgrimage - Preform pilgrimage to Mecca at least once, if physically and financially able.
The 5 pillars of Islam are called pillars because they are the moral support upon which Islam is based. They are the building blocks of Islamic beliefs; without fulfilling them, one isn't a Muslim.
More over, there are six articles of faith in Islam. These are the basic beliefs that one must have in order to be considered a true Muslim. They are, the belief in:
- 1-) The One God.
- 2-) All the prophets of God.
- 3-) The original scriptures revealed to Prophets Moses, David, Jesus, and Muhammad.
- 4-) The angels.
- 5-) The Day of Judgment and the Hereafter.
- 6-) The divine decree (or destiny).
