    Wa`alaikum salaam warahmatullaahi wabarakaatuh, sister.

Ukht, are those genuine questions or did you ask them so that we may contemplate?

    :salam:

    Volume 1. Book No 10. Hadith 506:[Bukhari]
Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "If there was a river at the door of anyone of you and he took a bath in it five times a day would you notice any dirt on him?" They said, "Not a trace of dirt would be left." The Prophet added, "That is the example of the five prayers with which Allah blots out (annuls) evil deeds."

There are various other reasons, one among them being it holds us firm on our deen, it is like a gateway to our deen.

    Peace.

Wa alaikum as salam wa rahmathullah wa barakath

    Just briefly,

We pray and fast because that’s what our Creator ordained upon us. That’s want He wants from an obedient slave. And obeying the All Mighty and doing those deeds can only fulfill the purpose of our creation.

This is what i can think of,to your that question "Why do we"....
    *smile*

    Barakallah feek

    Wa`alaykummussalaam wa rahmatullaahi barakaatuh,

I hope you are doing well, Sister Maria.

All the commandments that Allaah made upon His Creations, know that it is for *our own* benefits and goodness, not for Allaah. Know that even if the whole world doesn't pray to Allaah, it doesn't decrease in His Bounty and His Richness. Allaah is Al-Ghani.

We pray 5x a day as to purify our souls and to shift our focus back to our main goal in this life: to seek the blessings and pleasure from Allaah subhanahu wa Ta`ala. Time by time, day by day, when we are so preoccupied with the people and this life, sometimes we forget to say our gratitude to Allaah. We forget to make our supplications to Him, seek strengths and forgiveness from Our Lord. Hence praying 5x a day is the least a believer should do.

It goes the same for all the pillars in our faith. Fasting during Ramadhan, paying our zakah, performing our pilgrimage. It's for our own goodness apart from it serves as our duty to the ummah as a whole.
