World's largest floating book exhibit opens in Oman.
Logos Hope's Book Fair aims to enhance cultural exchange and understanding between world peoples through its floating book fair.
Muscat: The world's largest floating book fair opened at the Salalah Port in Oman on Saturday.
Mr Shaikh Abdullah Bin Saif Al Mahrouqi, Deputy Governor of Dhofar, opened the event, called the Logos Hope's Book Fair.
Mr Khalid Bin Musallam Al Rowas Director General of the Directorate General of Tourism in Dhofar Governorate said that the vessel, which includes 400 volunteers representing 50 different nationalities, will anchor at the Sultan Qaboos Port from January 15-19.
Logos Hope offers an expanded selection of books over 7,000 titles at affordable prices.
They cover a range of subjects including science, sports, hobbies and family life. With children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more, the book fair is something the whole family can enjoy.
“Additionally, the rest of the Visitor Experience deck is also open for the public to explore. From the Welcome Area, which introduces the new vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the International Café, which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale, there is sure to be something for everyone,” a company press release said.
According to an officer on board Ship Logos Hope, which started its first journey in 1970, the unique mission of the ship is to enhance cultural exchange and understanding between world peoples through its floating book fair.
The opening ceremony included a visual presentation on the vessels including its history, journeys and the ports it has visited.
It also included the peoples columns parade of the crew in their traditional costumes.
