Q: "Why do men and women sit separated in Islamic events?"
A: " In Islam, we respect the rights of both, the men & the women. And Islam puts barriers in place so that men are protected and women are protected. Everything in Islam is for the protection of the human being. I'm going to end here with a question- if it's okay for women and men to mingle, then why is there a bathroom for men & a bathroom for women and I can't go in the women's bathroom nor can the women go into the men's bathroom?"- Yushya Evans
Masha'Allah, loved that question he ended off with! I never even thought about it that way. I know here in the U.S., we have MSA's (Muslim Student Association) where everyone is freely mixed coming together to "spread the deen". I have been to one meeting of the MSA when I was in high school before I was even practicing & I knew something wasn't right. We didn't even talk about Islam. We all giggled with one another. So it makes sense that we are separated because when we are together, Shaytan makes us go astray from our pure intentions to the point where we start losing our hayat & the discussion is no longer Islamic . I always saw it as this- if we are separated in the masjid learning Islam for the sake of Allah, then what makes us think we can come together (freely mixed) at the MSA's for the sake of Allah?
