Summary of this lecture: Many times in movies, the film-makers have to include certain elements to make the movie appeal to the audience, such as background music (which is used to create and/or provoke certain emotions and feelings). Also, movies contain something to tap into the desires of the opposite gender. As the sheikh mentioned, a lot of us think we can get away with it by playing innocent, so when we see a sinful scene, we immediately turn our heads away or say 'astraguallah' . But then when you turn your head back to see if it's over, you see something that you weren't supposed to see. It reminds me of what Sheikh Kamal el Mekki also had mentioned in regards to movies, in that we tend to belittle these evil scenes by thinking it only lasts for a little while while the rest of the movie is good. It's almost like saying a cake will taste good even if there's a little poison in it. It doesn't make sense. The poison ruins the goodness.
So in the end, movies contain more evil...more haram than goodness. It's a money waster...time waster & on the Day of Judgement, you will be held accountable for the money you spent on DVD's or going to the cinema because you're wasting money while also supporting that which is bad.
