“And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a
him to get out (from every difficulty).
And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever
puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him. Verily, Allah will accomplish
purpose. Indeed Allah has set a measure for all things”[al-Talaaq 65:2-3]

Surely, the religion (i.e. the worship and the obedience) is for Allâh only. And those who take Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers) besides Him (say): "We worship them only that they may bring us near to Allâh." Verily, Allâh will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Truly, Allâh guides not him who is a liar, and a disbeliever. Chapter: Az-Zumar (39) Verse #: 3

Waiting to hear from you soon.

Thank for your warm welcome. I deeply appreciate the verses you quoted. I have already been very blessed in this journey toward enlightenment.

I didn't know if a mosque was like the temples or if they were open like the meeting houses to people who are trying to learn about the Muslim faith.

I few months after I started reading the Quran, I was in San Francisco. I walked past a mosque, that had a few brothers standing & talking in the doorway. I started talking to them.... and it lasted two almost hours. We would have gone on longer, but the call to prayer was given & that superceeded our conversation. They invited me to sit in the back & observe prayer. It was quite moving & informative. They were very sincere, open, and genuine. (One guy had not eaten all day, yet stayed there to talk to me). They did not try to force Islam on me, however I made up my mind to do Shahada then & there.

My point is that all the mosques / Islamic centers I've been to have been very accomodating & welcoming. It might be a bit hectic during prayer time, but I would visit & see what happens.

Is there anyplace where I can find a listing of Mosques for my area? I would like to be able to find one that is closer to me if possible, but as I said, I am willing to travel to the one I am aware of if no other is available.

This was exactly what I needed. I have found a mosque very close to me and it says that they do have classes as was suggested. I am going to go. Thank you and Assalamu Alaykum

Okay, I was mistaken about this being exactly what I needed. I tried to find the Islamic Center that the site referred to and have not been able to even locate the actual address on the road that is indicated. So, I am going to have to try to find one of the other centers or mosques. I know that Allah must have something very good there for me, because I am being challenged on my journey to discover it. Inshallah I will find one soon.

While I am thinking of it, is there anyplace on this site where I can find traditional recipes. I know this may seem odd, but I had the thought that in order to fully embrace what I learn of Islam it would be best for me live, pray, eat etc., as closely in tune with these teachings as is possible, I have even started looking into finding a place locally where I can buy appropriate clothing. If anyone knows of a store anywhere around Dayton or Cincinnati, OH where I can find what I am looking for (and a lot of help, I'm sure) I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Jazak Allah Khair

I actually don't know anyone. Would it be considered wrong of me to ask one of the muslim men I work with where their wives go to shop for their clothing in our area?

I don't think it is wrong to ask any question as long as you don't intend any harm. Let them know of your intensions, you may be surprised by their help.

May Allah soften their heart and guild them to help you and others alike!

Assalamu alaikum (peace be unto you) dear sister!

I call you sister because your heart is already open to the call of submission to the will of the creator, Allah alone.

I am amazed no one has replied to your most important request which is how to pray as muslims pray and so on.

The following link explains step by step, how to pray as muslims pray.
http://english.islamway.com/prayer/BegSound.htm
http://www.turntoislam.com/index.php?page=pray

You may be surprised if I tell you that praying is the second step.

The first step to take is the declaration of faith.
When you say this declaration and believe in it, you are a muslim rightaway.

Then comes the 5 times prayers a day and the rest.

Before you do that, you may want to know who is Allah. Check the following link:
http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2432

Declaration of faith which is called (The Shahadah) should be understood in English and repeated in both Arabic and English.
Its Arabic wording is like this:

"ASH-HADU ANLA ELAHA ILLA-ALLAH WA ASH-HADU ANNA MOHAMMADAN RASUL-ALLAH".

The English translation is:

"I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I bear witness that Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah"

When you say and believe this, you are a muslim.
Please let us know when you do this. You will become sister to all muslim brothers and sisters and a member of the global muslim family.

I will not overwhelm you by more information at this stage.
May the help and guidence of Allah be with you. Ameen

Assalamu alaikum

Masha Allah, I spoke to the gentleman who actually sparked my interest in learning more about Islam during Ramadan. He wasn't sure of exact addresses, but he did mention one on Wayne Ave. where his wife, mother and sister all purchase clothing occasionally. I believe the Halal Meats market must also have a clothing store. This is definately a good listing, one because he confirmed it's location and two because I actually grew up very close to where this store is located so I should be able to find easily. :)

I guess I never mentioned how I became interested in learning more about Islam. I met this gentleman among others through my place of work. At Ramadan he needed to be able to change his break and lunch times a little in order to be able to fast properly. Our supervisor was a bit put off by this, but I and our gap leader said we would simply keep rolling on our line through our breaks to make up for the time he needed to be able to eat. This went throughout the plant and several other bro.'s were able to do the same by the same means on their lines for that month.

My friend then told me three days before his fast was to begin that he would not be able to speak to me (other than for work purposes) or even sit beside me during our breaks as was our usual habit, during this month and for three days after. This sparked a lot of questions for me and set me on my search. Of course, I respected his need for this space. It was apparent that this observance of Ramadan was and is very important to him. I wanted to know why. As I thought to find out why Ramadan was so important, I felt it important to start with understanding Islam as a whole before breaking down into the five pillars and six articles of faith.

I am now beginning to understand that it is likely that the more casual and worldly exchanges we have had in the past, were actually not in keeping with appropriate interactions between men and women, although he does not seem to feel there was anything wrong with it. I am struggling with this, because I enjoy our friendship. However, I am coming to terms with the ideal that I will have to find a way to withdraw myself from these interactions in the future as much for his sake as for mine. I do care for him, therefore, I would not want to be the source or cause of Allah being displeased with my brother/friend anymore than I already have. Astaghfir Allah.

I am thankful to Allah, Al-hamdulillah, for guiding me to this understanding and for the mercy he has shown me throughout my journey to Islam and Insha'Allah, as I continue to seek further knowledge.

Allahu Akbar!!
