LONDON: Pop singer Michael Jackson has converted to Islam and changed his name to Mikaeel.


The 50-year-old star, pledged his allegiance to the Koran in a ceremony at a friend's mansion in Los Angeles, the Sun reported.

Jackson sat on the floor wearing a tiny hat after an Imam was summoned to officiate -- days before the singer is due to appear at London's High Court where he is being sued by an Arab Sheik, the paper said.

The star decided to adopt the new religion
while he was recording a song at the home of his friend where a Jehovah's witness was brought up to help him through the ceremony.

Apparently the star of hits like 'the Way You Make Me Feel-was convinced by his producer and songwriter friends David Wharnsby and Phillip Bubal.

"They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.

"An Imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief," the source revealed.

Mikaeel is the name of one of Allah's angels. "Jacko rejected an alternative name, Mustafa meaning "the chosen one", the source added.

The singer, who rarely ventures out without a mask, is due to give evidence on Monday in a 4.7 million pound lawsuit brought by Prince Abdulla Al-Khalif of Bahrain for defaulting on an exclusive recording contract.

It's quite funny... for many years rumors have spread of him being a Muslim when he really wasnt, but this time it looks as though it is true! It's also recorded in the New York Post ...

May Allah guide and direct him towards the correct, as just becoming Muslim by title isnt the end of the road, merely a stepping stone.

Beleaguered pop star Michael Jackson has converted to Islam and changed his name to Mikaeel, it has been claimed today.
The 50-year-old singer, who has previously been photographed wearing a traditional Arab women's veil, reportedly became a Muslim in a ceremony at a friend's house in Los Angeles.
The singer, who was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, is said to have sat on the floor and worn a small hat while an imam officiated at the home of Steve Porcaro, who composed music on his Thriller album

He is said to have been encouraged by Canadian songwriter David Wharnsby and Phillip Bubal, a producer, who both approached him after he appeared 'a bit down'.
A source told The Sun: 'They began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted. Michael soon began warming to the idea.
'An imam was summoned from the mosque and Michael went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief.'
His brother Jermaine Friday, previously hinted Jackson was considering converting to the religion.
'When I came back from Mecca I got him a lot of books and he asked me lots of things about my religion and I told him that it's peaceful and beautiful,' said Friday, who embraced the faith in 1989.
'He read everything and he was proud of me that I found something that would give me inner strength and peace.
'He could do so much, just like I am trying to do. Michael and I and the word of God, we could do so much.'
Meanwhile, Jackson is scheduled to give evidence in person at London's High Court to defend allegations that he owes an Arab sheikh £4.7 million.
His barrister, Robert Englehart QC, told Mr Justice Sweeney today that he was withdrawing his application for Jackson to give his evidence via video link from Los Angeles because of health fears.

'He has been cleared by his medical advisers to travel in two days' time,' he told the judge.

Jackson is expected to arrive in the UK over the weekend to give his evidence on Monday afternoon

I have serous doubts about the authenticity of the article and if it is true, I doubt the intentions of Michael Jackson. He has gotten so bizarre and has been known to inject controversial/strange false info into the press just to get the spotlight shining back on imself. He doesn't seem to care if it's good publicity or negative, he just laps it up reguardless. In the meantime he is being sued by a wealthy shaeik for taking large sums of money with the agreement of using it to produce and album and now he claims it was a gift. The sheik disagrees.

And about Jermaine Jackson, I saw him during an interview talking about how he follows Islam and in the meantime had large gold rings on, a gold necklace, a gold stud in his ear and was wearing a silk shirt. After that I seriously wondered about the truth of his conversion. He also s a producer for a record company.

I am in agreement with Brother Justoneinamillion. We have to welcome him. We do not know what is in Makeel Jackson's heart. But, he has always been sincere in charity. He has donated millions to those in needs. We just did not hear of the good he has done.
Islam is a process. The more we learn the easier it is to give up for the love and fear of Allah subhana talla. We are not to be the judges..but the brethern of those who submit. The Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, did not critize..he simply led the way.
In sum, Alhumdulliah we have another Muslim in the family.

I get more excited about John and Jane reverting..than Michael Jackson and the like of those people...

May Allah guide all towards the straight path..

But seriously...

if someone was converting to Islam because of their belief in it..they wouldn't make ceremonies..announce it to the world..and make a fuss about it...

add to that the first bad decision upon reversion..

choosing Mikaeel for a name!!!

one last advice...we should go read things which will benefit our beliefs and our characters instead...wasting time on media schemes and gossips...won't get us anywhere!!!

I am happy to learn through this news piece that Michael Jackson has becomes a Muslim and changes his name to Mikaeel. If this is true then I will be very pleased. Every soul deserves to be saved from hell fire. MJ has been doing strange things throughout his whole life, but if this news is true and he has accepted Islam from his heart, then he deserves to be congratulated.

I guess it will become clear in the coming days his conversion is true or not and even if he has converted is it from his heart or not. I will wait and see.

In the mean time I will pray for him that Allah gives him Hidayah and guide him towards the true deen of Islam. Ameen.

Let me first pray to Allaah for His Mercy on a son of Adam alaihissalaam Michael Jackson. It is Allaah Who gives Hidaaya no one else.

We know that Allaah's Apostle sallallaahu alaihi wasallam prayed to Allaah to give Hidaaya to Umar, Hamza or AbuJahl as they are very strong people in Makkah during the early years of propogation. There is no harm if media exposures are given to famous people reverting to Islaam. It will open the doors of Islaam for others too.

We know how Islaam was on top of newspapers of yesteryears when the Boxing legend reverted to Islaam; Pop king reverted to Islaam.

Who knows that tomorrow George W. Bush might revert to Islaam. Everything is possible because Allaah rules His creations; He is all powerful; He knows everything; He hears everything; Everything is under His command.

Whatever a person did in the past is forgiven once he accepts and declares the SHAHADAH.

So, dear Brothers and Sisters.
We pray to Allaah to guide everyone to His Straight Path.

Michael Jackson and his brother Jermain are both Muslims. MJ has a beautiful song dedicated to Allah SWT on you tube. I downloaded it to my facebook but don't know how to bring it here but its beautiful. His brother has been trying to guide Mike to Islam for a while. I'm glad that he has accepted Islam into his heart. I wish I could see this world if everyone was a part of Islam.
