Do women have equal rights in voting, education and work, and has this was always the case in UK?

It was difficult the women to enter higher education.

• 1882 – women have right to own earnings, property and money.

• 1918 – women over 30 can vote.

• 1928 – women over 21 can vote.

• 1960s, 1970s –parliament passed laws prohibiting discrimination, and giving equal pay.

Woman still earn 20% less on average today in the modern Britain.

NOTE: These stastitics are not mine but from UK government.

Women are different from men ,and created for a different purpose in life. Trying to make man and women equal in everything ,- I mean calling for women to act exactly like men - distort the balance in life. Islam put things in it's suitable place and direct each of men and women to do their duties in life . Islam make a stable family with a caring loving mother a priority. Islam makes caring for a child and a husband a great kind of ibada : worship. Women are not less than men but different.

Equal rights has nothing to do with men and women being identical, or asking women to "act like men."

Yes dear sister , I believe ignoring these realities in life of both men and women create a big problems in families . Allah suhanahu wa taaala created men and women with different nature to complete each other. Not every job man can do is suitable for women ........it is the duty of man to support his family Financially, the duty of women is to care for their husbands and children ........she can work but not every work is suitable for women .......the best place for women is their homes where is closer to Allah subhanahu wa taala and Allah knows best.

Brohters and siaters, The reasons I have posted those facts about women right in the UK is let you see that the west, who claims to champion human rights and equality, Islam has already established them long ago, 1400 years ago. In the west, even with their sophicated social-science still the haven't got right for elevating woman. Like their statistics says 'Woman still earn 20% less on average today''.
Also among many other things, women in the west are taken as a piece of meat.

what i belive is that even if they gain this 20% and will earn as much as mens, this in no way means ''elevation of woman''. It is much more then this, the elevation of woman and the statistics of how much she works to gain money are not directly proportional.

i trust the good muslim mans that will respect for us this right to be womans and feminine, that islam established ..inchallah, with the help of Allah

:)

may Allah guide us to our real goal, ameen

Equality of the sexes have never existed and it never will. It is a myth fabricated by satan to mislead the people. When Eve was created from the rib of Adam (pbuh) she was not equal to him in any way, shape of form :) Eve was created to be the companion of Adam, to be sub-servient to him to bear his children to start the human family that would populate the whole earth. Equality is a dream concocted in the minds of disatisfied women throughout history and permeating to the modern world. This is the reason there are so many disharmonious marriages in the world today. Many millions of women cling on to the dream of equality and fight tooth and nail to try and achieve it but always slipping from the grasp. Take away this fantasy of equality then there will be harmony as decreed by Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala. Man has been put on a pedestal and women cannot understand this no matter how hard they try.

Wa-alaikum assalam,

You're mistaken there, I've met women who are more than able to explain this fact, live by it and have no problem accepting it.

Thats fair enough, the equal rights thing didn't work, obviously.

Sahih International
Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of one's estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for one's parents, to each one of them is a sixth of his estate if he left children. But if he had no children and the parents [alone] inherit from him, then for his mother is one third. And if he had brothers [or sisters], for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he [may have] made or debt. Your parents or your children - you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. [These shares are] an obligation [imposed] by Allah . Indeed, Allah is ever Knowing and Wise.

Man has been given higher authority than woman. A man and a woman are not equal. A woman is sub-servient to a man. What is so hard to understand about this? Women shout equality because they want to be the domineering person in the household, that is abhorrant to Allah Subhana Wa Ta'ala as it would conflict with His laws.

Yes Tom this is a fact. We see women who don't want to establish family because it will interfer with progression of her career i.e. maternity, looking after the children, will be a barrier to them. In reality many companies like to promote male employes because male can not get pregnant and will not need long maternity leave and frequent breaks when the child is sick, this will cost company money.

We're equal in the eyes of Allaah subhana wa ta'ala. Just because we have been ordered to obey our husbands or whatever, it doesn't mean we're less important or inferior.

Right sister we obey Allah subhanahu wa taaala that is why we obey our husbands , men and women are slaves of Allah subhanahu wa taaala , we should never humilaite our selves only to our creator . If a woman have more taqwa than a man then she is better than him. At the same time woman should be proud to do her role in life as Allah subhanahu wa taaala planed for her. She should never be ashamed of her nature.

Equality v/s sameness

:salam2:
Interesting that this topic should come up here now, along with the Hijab topic in the other thread, these are intertwined.

A research group after a well done study, that corrects the inadequacy found in old methodologies, it seems has concluded, there is fundamental difference between Men and Women. The differences between men and women is not by their external appearance alone, but it runs deeper. So the refuters would mostly counter it by saying that genders are conditioned to be such by social norms... And the research sort of tries to negate it. Typical to research groups, this group says the methodology they is more inclusive, and hence the results are better. The jury is still not out...

Many studies shows that In brain, men and women think differently for equally intelligent behavior. [Now how they said that? 'By measuring the brain activity, after giving them same situation to solve or respond to' ]. This remains undisputed.

A very important question which always lingers in the thoughts and adds fuels to the equality question. Does difference means one is inferior and other superior?
Difference here that we are speaking of is that between orange and apple. And like they say, famously "Apples are to be compared with Apples".

If one observes the lioness always has a significant role in the Pride, while the Lion has another role in the Pride. A Lioness is a Lioness and a Lion a Lion. Each Unique, each equally admirable for the role it plays. The role reversal happens in the case of some species and the species sticks to its role and never stray from it. The fools would take it the other way round and argue each human is a separate species...!

We today, thanks to all the wrong motives and confusion, might never collectively agree and comprehend the full picture, And in meanwhile loose the time to do justice to gender we are...!

Its a fact the opposite sexes complement each other well by design (For believers, its Almighty Allah's design and divine decree). And, Male/Female have a purpose to fulfill, just like Jinns and Ins have a purpose to fill. From how Almighty views us, men and women, are equal, they both will be judged on same scale on judgement day. To fail in fulfilling the purpose and seeking the seemingly impossible, beats common sense. On earth, each gender has a significant role to play, to maintain harmony in family thereby fulfilling the purpose of life on earth, without denying the 'others role and equality', and accepting sameness is vanity!

May each of us excel,And when time comes prove to be 'The women' in a mans life, And 'The Man' in a womens life, by completing each other, To please Almighty Allah... Ameen!

Asalam wailkium.

Let's put things in perspective. Women living in the UK have alot of right's and opportunity for self development and education (including career) in the UK compared to other nations.

Islam is a way of life
This may be a LITTLE off topic, but in regards of Western women saying "we are 100% equal to men":

I find it amusing some women say that. But yet if a man PUNCHES that women. She will scream and scream because she probably thinks men cannot hit women ;) Thus negating her earlier statement. Men hit men all the time and settle it like that. But women will bring tears and police into the situation. WHY? Because men can seriously hurt us due to their stronger UPPER BODY STRENGTH.

Women have bad Upper body strength, we have stronger legs.
