Assalam alaikum,
Our Masters in Islam's inner knowledge say that if you want Allah, Lord of the Universe to unlock the door of hope for you, so that you ask and request of Him, then recall in your heart the Graciousness and Generosity and extra beneficence He delivers to you which is beyond counting and recording.
If you want Him to unlock the door of fear, [then] regard or recall what you submit to Him of great disobedience and committing sins. If this state overtakes you, your grief will intensify and you will present forth righteousness and good deeds. Thus, Hope and Fear are states emanating from these states of Witnessing, so observe them both.
