Hadith on Fasting:
The recommendation to break fasting with dates or water
Salman ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “When one of you fasts, then let him break his fast with dates, but if he does not find dates, then with water because water is purifying.”
[Sunan Abu Dawud, Book of Fasting, Number 2355, Sahih]
عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ عَمِّهَا قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَائِمًا فَلْيُفْطِرْ عَلَى التَّمْرِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ التَّمْرَ فَعَلَى الْمَاءِ فَإِنَّ الْمَاءَ طَهُورٌ

The Prophet’s supplication upon breaking his fast
Marwan ibn Salim reported: I saw Ibn Umar take hold of his beard and trim whatever exceeded his hand. He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, used to say upon breaking the fast, “Gone is the thirst, quenched are the veins, and assured is the reward – if Allah wills.”

مَرْوَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَالِمٍ الْمُقَفَّعَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقْبِضُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ فَيَقْطَعُ مَا زَادَ عَلَى الْكَفِّ وَقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَفْطَرَ قَالَ ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتْ الْعُرُوقُ وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
