Thanks sister soeurette for sharing with us. I like reading articles from 'Independent' and 'Telegraph'. They are usually well written.
That is incorrect. The decimal system, decimal fractions, the zero and the shapes of all ten numerals were all defined by one man, a Persian Muslim named Jashmeed ibn Mahmood ibn Mas`ood. What a brilliant man he was! He designed the shapes of each numeral to have exactly the same number of angles as the numeral. For example, the numeral "1" has one angle (in the hook part of it on top), the numeral "8" has eight angles and so on. And...get this...the numeral "0" is round; it has no angles! Clever, wasn't he?

Being Indian and studying Indian curriculum in High school, the Indian inventing the numeral system has been repeated like gazillion times. (The Aryabhatta claim !)
Repeating a myth time and time over kindof makes it seem like a fact !

But I have often come across what brother Ayman has written above. Thanks for the input. :)
