Is it a hadith?

Assalam-o-alaikum brothers and sisters!!
Hope you all are doing fine!

A few days ago i went through a quotation " Seek knowledge even if you have to go to China"...and it was written that this saying is said by hadhrat Muhammad SAW....

But then my sister told me that this was not a hadith but an old Arabic saying...it really shocked me because in most of my school textbooks it is written as a hadith!

Now i just wanted ro know is it really not a hadith??

I just looked up this hadith, and found it to be a weak Hadith.

Many scholars agreed that weak Hadiths cannot be considersed authentic nor fabricated.. So it would be ok to mention such Weak Hadiths without using them in Fiqh matters.
