I am reading this right now and learning how migrant workers are being treated like slaves in the US. Its really depressing but I highly recommend it. You'll never think about your food the same way again.

Two things.

One, lots of Americans criticize Islam because some Muslim countries only recently outlawed slavery. They were sending people to prison up into the 1930's in places like Georgia and Mississippi for forcing people to serve as slaves illegally.

Two, the migrants are mostly illegal and therefore have little to no rights under US law. The US business owners want them to come and so that's why the US will school the children of illegals, rent to them, allow them to get cars, ect. All this encourages the illegals to want to come. However, the minute the illegal gets hurt on a job accident or gets mad about being mistreated---deported he goes.

It really isn't that much different from slavery in principle.
