What of Gods mercy? It cannot be compromised by His justice.. No?

Another thing I don't quite understand.. In Islam it seems like you can, by your own behaviours, have effect on your eternal position before God. Like good deeds counted against bad deeds = rewards? How can you "earn" your own righteousness?

I can see this must be a comforting position for muslim. For me as a christian I know I can do nothing of myself to "earn" Gods salvation. It is a gift through grace. Maybe I am more reliant upon God than you as muslim

Dear Cariad the first thing Iman : faith do is purifying hearts by love of God , hope in his mercy, reliance on him, gratitude towards his favors , humility after knowing how great is he , sincerity .............etc . They call them in Islam work of hearts .....it is the starting point of the journey in Islam. Then our life will flourish with good deeds flowing from a pure heart.

Surat Ibrahim.

These verses can be seen as a 'divine promise' to show God is aware of all acts of goodness, sincerity and will reward those who are and have strived to remain on the path of spiritual salvation. He will honour the person who performed even the slightest of goodness.

In comparison, the oppressors, tyrants, cruel and other kinds of immoral people will be brought before God, answer for their actions, stand before Him and face the consequences of their deeds. In some instances, this may just be the shame and humiliation of being held to account for past actions. For others it will be to stand trial and be forced to pay damages to those whom they oppressed or wronged.
