Assalaamu `alaika warahmatullaah brother.
Have you listened to any of his talks? Did you notice anything wrong with the things he says? Or is this just a general question and you're trying to tread carefully?
I'll admit I have not listened to much of his lectures/talks but I also haven't heard anyone claiming that he's not upon the manhaj. He says himself that's he's a sunni. And Allaahu a`lam.
I personally don't think we should go around asking such questions, akhy. That is, unless the 'shaykh' is known for his deviance.
The 'brotherhood' has been lost, in this day and age Muslims are enemies of one another subhaanallah. So we must find ways to stick together and support one another in goodness. The prophet
told us in a saheeh hadeeth
وَكُونُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ إِخْوَانًا "And be, servants of Allaah, brothers!"
As far as seeking knowledge goes, there are books as well as talks available by scholars who've dedicated their time and effort to teaching the deen, unlike Zakir Nair who's main role is a daa`ee, so maybe look into those first and return back to Zakir Naik and the like for whatever reason.
For Tafseer of the qur'aan, in English, there's a brother by the name of Nu`maan (Nouman) Khan, you'll find him on YouTube, and I seriously recommend him.
May Allaah `azza wa jalla keep us firm upon the deen.
