Salat

I need some help with salat! I've found tons of sites that explain how to do it and all that, but what I need to know is:

Is it the same prayer five times a day? Different? What's the difference? Is there ONE thing I should memorize for EVERY salat if they are different? I keep seeing that you should recite part of the Qur'an, how do I know which part to recite?

I feel really intimidated by this and I haven't done it yet but I haven't stopped thinking about it and feeling awful that I haven't done it yet. I know this might sound silly to most of you but it's something I'm struggling with! HELP! :shymuslima1:

Salam sister,

dont feel intimated, its taken me ages to learn salat and alhumdillah after 2 years I've finally started to get the hang of it!!! lol

Best thing to do is to speak to another sister and ask her to show you, the books are really not helpful when you dont know where to start - saying that once you've got the hang of it, the are a god send!!

Stick with it!!

As a born muslim i would suggest you visit the mosque and actually have someone take you through the steps and show step by step on how to perform the salat. Then i would suggest you read some literature on the topic....

pls dont be shy to ask any question on how to perform salat. the link sister aisha1114 has given is a good one.... the most important thing is that we should have proper intention that -we are facing toward OUR CREATOR as his true slave.
Prayer ie salat is the one the prevent us from the satan's path.

Thank you everyone who responded! The links and videos are helpful, especially the videos. I'm one of those people who learns better from watching than reading. I think that the thing that intimidates me the most is memorizing all of it, especially when I only speak English! Insh'Allah, through this I will also learn Arabic! I'm visiting the mosque on Sunday so hopefully I will meet some sisters who can help me. Just in case someone else is reading this thread needing help, these videos were also helpful:
