Shocked When in Rome

Assalamu alaikum!

Knowing that Rome (Vatican) is the centre of Christianity, I expected Italians and particularly people of Rome to be relatively of stronger morals and to some degree, of some religious character compared to other European Christians who mostly carry only the name. Sadly, my experience was the opposite.

I found that when something would go wrong, the Italians would start "cursing" Mary and Jesus which was shocking and sad.

I do not think there is even one muslim in the whole world who would do that while it was a common occurence among Italians.

Has anyone experienced the same when in Rome (Italy)?

This is the mistake that lots of people make. Most of the people think that, since in Italy there is the vatican, the pope etc., the Italians are very good in "religious behaves"... well, that's not the case. Italians are like any other populations: they swear and behave bad too

Just swearing would not be such a big deal to me, but swearing at Mary and Jesus when anything and everything goes wrong is outrageous, isn't it?
