"Acquire knowledge, it enables its professor to distinguish right from wrong; it lights the way to heaven. It is our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when friendless. It guides us to happiness, it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst friends and an armour against enemies." (widely attributed to the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)

saalam

video not working for me
:salam2:try copy pasting the address above , this happens sometimes with you tube, the actual documentary was muxh longer but there are no english subtitles yet available for the whole,it is based on the studies and a series of books made at the Goethe university of Frankfurt, given the fact that he himself Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe was a facinated by Islam and big admirer of prophet Muhammad :saw:of course.

here is an extract of one of his poems!

«Jesus fühlte rein und dachte
Nur den Einen Gott im Stillen;
Wer ihn selbst zum Gotte machte
Kränkte seinen heil'gen Willen.
Und so muß das Rechte scheinen
Was auch Mahomet gelungen;
Nur durch den Begriff des Einen
Hat er alle Welt bezwungen.»
(WA I, 6, 288 ff)

translation
Jesus felt purely and thought
the only true god in silence
He who makes him into a god
Sickens his holy will
This is how truth shines through
what Muhammad could achieve,
only trough the concept of the one
the whole world he conquered! haha poems dont really sound the same when translated:)
"Oberhaupt der Geschöpfe - Muhammed." (WA I, 6, 482)
"The best of creation-Muhammad"

He is also quoted to have said "I wanna pray like Moses in the Quran"
He also felt deep inside the enormity of lalatu al quadr when he got a little older.

He believed that prophet muhammad was the messenger of God! this was a littler more than tolerance according to me! allahu aalaam what his lasts words were.He said in his west Östlichen Divan,

"Er ist Prophet und nicht Poet und daher auch sein Koran als göttliches Gesetz und nicht etwa als menschliches Buch, zum Unterricht oder zum Vergnügen, anzusehen." (Noten und Abhandlungen zum West-Östlichen Divan, WA I, 7, 32)
Translated
"He was a prophet not a poet ,consequently his Quran is a godly law and not to be taught as a human book or that should be regarded as an object of pleasure and amusement!"
when his niece died from cholera he wrote a letter to one of his friends that ends with "|The only thing i can do is to search comfort in Islam!"

There are alot of quotes and writing from Goethe about islam, only rememeber a few of them the documentation however is huge.Hence this shows just how much Islam has influenced the philosophy the development of thought of probably one of the greatest European thinkers of all time. And anyone who sees Voltaire s theater play as merely hate towards Islam, is also mistaking he used it to indirectly attack the churches and their religious fanatism but he couldn t point the fingers towards them at ther risk of being exiled, banned and boycotted by the cardinals that is why he took Islam.Even Voltaire used to quote the quran in his books with admiration.just a thought..

Salaam,

Wow. Powerful & moving. It explains why the West has monopolized many illegal patents that have Islamic origins. Without Islamic civilzation there wouldn't be a Western civilization.

Do Western societies really think they're "modern" with their technology when in fact they've just built on from the works of stolen Muslim scientists.

When Islamic science was at it's peak, Europe was in the "Dark Ages." It makes you think, is time really a straight line or a circle? Islam started as a stranger and it will return as a stranger.

Thanks for sharing brother Jameel.

Subhan Allah, Great historical content.
This history needs to be introduced into classrooms, instead of the boring old Columbus discovered America routine. Students need to know what life in Europe prior to his voyages especially, Al Andalus And Southern France and how Islam brought that continent out of the dark ages. It is up to us muslims to educate ourselves about Islamic contribution to the world. Studying Subjects of knowledge such as Tawheed and Aqeedah are absolutely essential, but history plays an important part in our identity and how we see ourselves. The same way that Africans in the Carribean and Americas had to rediscover the greatness of their African roots, Muslims must keep the bond and dialogue between each other open to bring to the surface the truth of the Muslim contribution to every continent in the world.

this book for those who wish to read about scientific achievements by muslims.

but some things were done which must have been avoided like interest in astrology and magic.
