When the night is completely dark,
It finds them staying up in the night
Fear has chased away their sleep
So they stay up
While those who feel secure in this life
Quietly sleep on

Ibn al Mubarak

Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it.
Your sickness is from you but you do not perceive it.
You presume you are a small entity,
But within you is folded the entire universe
You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabet the hidden becomes manifest.
Therefore, you have no need to look beyond yourself, what you seek is within you, only if you reflect.

(ALI IBN ABU TALIB RADIALLAHU ANHU)

Abdullah bin Mubarak related that it was said to Humdun ibn Ahmad

"Why is the speech of our pious predecessors more beneficial than our speech?" He replied, "Because they spoke of the honour of Islam, for the salvation of the soul, and for the pleasure of the Most Merciful. However, we speak to honour ourselves, to seek out the world, and to please the creation."

Shaykh Ahmad Ibn Taymiyyah

I am the strictest of the people... when it comes to takfîr, tafsîq, and tabdî' of specific individuals, unless it is known that the textual proof has been established on him in a way that shows, by way of his opposition to the proofs, that he is truly a kâfir or fâsiq. And I continually affirm that Allah has forgiven this nation for its mistakes, and this includes mistakes in statements and actions. And the Salaf went on differing over many issues without labeling eachother with disbelief, disobedience, sinning, etc..." (Majmû 'ul-Fatâwâ, 3/229)

Al-Ghazali said, "If you see Allah, Mighty and Magnificent, holding back this world from you, frequently trying you with adversity and tribulation, know that you hold a great status with Him. Know that He is dealing with you as He does with His Awliya' and chosen elite, and is watching over you, have you not heard His saying, "So wait steadfastly for the judgment of your Lord - you are certainly before Our eyes. {At-Tur 52:48}

"Happiness is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it. There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should not worry."

"The divine decree related to the believer is always a bounty, even if it is in the form of withholding (something that is desired), and it is a blessing, even if it appears to be a trial, and an affliction that has befallen him is in reality a cure, even though it appears to be a disease!

Unfortunately, due to the ignorance of the worshipper, and his transgressions, he does not consider anything to be a gift or a blessing or a cure unless he can enjoy it immediately, and it is in accordance with his nature. If he were only given a little bit of understanding, then he would have counted being withheld from as a blessing, and the sickness as a mercy, and he would relish the trouble that befalls him more than he relishes his ease, and he would enjoy poverty more than he enjoys richness, and he would be more thankful when he is blessed with little than when he is blessed with a lot."

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim (Rahimahullah)

"Acquire knowledge, it enables its professor to distinguish right from wrong; it lights the way to heaven. It is our friend in the desert, our company in solitude and companion when friendless. It guides us to happiness, it sustains us in misery, it is an ornament amongst friends and an armour against enemies."

"Do not lose hope in adversity and complain that God singled you out for punishment, remitting others guilty of worse sins. Your present state could very well be His intent to elevate your spiritual station; or He could just be testing your faith. Everyday that you persevere, you grow closer to perfection. Thus your present despair may be beginning of an infinite blessing."
