Hello, I'm curious about Islam and I have been reading the Qur'an in English.
I have two translations. One by M.A.S. Abdul Haleem, that seems easy to read but is quite big.. and a small pocket translation by Maulana Muhammad Ali.
The little pocket one is very convenient to carry around, but the English is a little more difficult and formal.
Also I noticed that the bigger book (Haleem) uses phrases like 'alif lam meem'... these are not in the pocket book (Ali) but have been translated.
I've looked in some other translations but the ’alif lam meem' is not usually translated...
*Why is that?
*Also, are some translations better than others?
