TurnToIslam Was Jesus the word of God? Is Jesus created ?

Absolute truth

لا إله إلا الله
1. Muslims do not consider the Qur’an an independent identity that equals Allah (Glory be to Him) for it is not self-emerging speech; it is His Speech whom He spoke and revealed on the heart of His Prophet. His Speech is an integral Attribute of His. Adjective is adherent to its object [or subject], so God’s Attributes stands by Him and are as eternal as He. How come they separate the adjective from its object (or subject)?

The consequences of such reasoning is that all Allah’s Attributes are gods with Him, so Allah’s Hearing is a god, Allah’s Sight is a god, Allah’s Knowledge is a god and Allah’s Wrath is a god. Moreover, the ‘community’ of gods will include the Torah, the Injeel, the Zaboor and the rest of what Allah has spoken1 and is speaking and that whom His Angels and Messengers hear which is endless and uncountable “Say: if the ocean were ink (wherewith to write out) the words of my Lord, sooner would the ocean be exhausted than would the words of my Lord, even if we added another ocean like it, for its aid.” (Holy Qur’an 18:109) No sane person would say this unless someone believes that God’s Attributes are created, then he will negate the eternality of His Attributes like Knowledge, Hearing, Sight, .. etc.. so God was ignorant, blind and deaf till He created these attributes! Far Exalted is He above this, for He is eternally Omniscient, All-Wise, All-Hearing and All-Seeing.

It is not said that we worship the Holy Qur’an; we merely pray to Allah with it and worship Him with reciting, believing and following it the same way we ask Him with calling His Most Beautiful Attributes “The Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them” (Holy Qur’an 7:180).

2. “The allegation that the Messiah is a god with Allah for it is His Word and God’s Word is uncreated”:

We answer that the Messiah (peace be upon him) is not the Word, but was created with the Word. This is what the Holy Qur’an states when He Ta’ala says, “The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: Be: and he was.” (Holy Qur’an 3:59) His specialization with being described as Allah’s Word in contrast to other creatures is due to his creation with it directly2 in violation of all causes and rules whom Allah Ta’ala established in His creation.

It is further noteworthy that the Orthodox Jewish conception of Torah also views it as uncreated by a specific act of God’s will and primordial. The Torah is reported (sometimes as either 947 generations3 and sometimes as 2,000 years4) to have existed before the Creation, and that God took counsel with it at the creation of the world. Are Christians prepared to pass the same judgment on Judaism as well, namely that by virtue of the doctrine of the uncreatedness of the Torah, Judaism is not a monotheism?
---
Everything has a direct cause and an indirect cause. We often attribute things to their direct causes; when we see green fertile land, we comment, “Look at the effect of rain!” while God is the actual maker. But if a living plant were seen growing on a hard stone, we would comment, “Look at the making of God!” so the actual cause is revealed due to lack of a direct one. Based upon this argument, since the direct cause of Jesus’(P) birth is absent, he is attributed to an indirect cause which is the Word because everyone is created with God’s Word for He says to any creature, “Be” and he is. This is the reason why he(P) is described as a “Word of God”, in reference to his miraculous birth and absence of the usual direct cause.

Absolute truth

لا إله إلا الله
Qur'an makes it clear that Jesus just like Adam was a creation...

Surah 3:59

"Truly, the likeness of Jesus, in God's sight, is as Adam's likeness; He created him of dust, then said He unto him, 'Be,' and he was"

So now even if Christians could manage to show that Jesus was created before his bodily/human existence it still won't prove that he is divine since the Qur'an has made it clear that Jesus is a CREATION, while Allah is the CREATOR.

The majority of Qur'anic commentators are of the opinion that 'word' is referring to Jesus (peace be upon him), while Imam Tabari understood it to be referring to Allah's message and glad tidings to Maryam about the birth of Jesus.

However, let us assume that Surah 3:45 does say that Jesus is 'a word'. The verse says that Jesus is A WORD, not THE WORD of Allah. Jesus is not the speech of Allah (which is eternal), he is a created human being.

One might ask why Jesus is referred to as 'a word'. Imam Qurtubi answers this by saying...

وَسُمِّيَ عِيسَى كَلِمَة لِأَنَّهُ كَانَ بِكَلِمَةِ اللَّه تَعَالَى الَّتِي هِيَ " كُنْ " فَكَانَ مِنْ غَيْر أَب

And Jesus was named 'word' because it was with the word of Allah Almighty that was 'Be' (see Surah 3:59) that he was created, for he was without a Father. ( Al-Qurtubi, Tasfir al Jami' li-ahkam al-Qur'an, Commentary on Surah 3:45)

Ibn Abbass also took this position...

((And remember) when the angels) i.e. Gabriel (said: O Mary! Allah giveth you glad tidings of a Word from Him) of a son who shall come into being by means of a Word from Allah, (whose name is the Messiah) because he travels from one country to another; it is also said: the Messiah means the king, (Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world) he has standing and position amidst people in the life of this world (and the Hereafter) he has standing and position with Allah, (and one of those brought near) unto Allah in the Garden of Eden.(Ibn Abbaas, Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn 'Abbâs, Commentary on Surah 3:45)

And:

The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary) and through His word he became a created being,(Ibn Abbaas, Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn 'Abbâs, Commentary on Surah 4:171)
Some may argue that even Adam and other creatures were created by Allah saying 'Be', yet no where do we see Allah giving them this title.

However, the fact that this title was not given to anyone else does not mean that they don't fall under this category.

For instance, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) has the title "Khalil Allah" ("Allah's Friend"), for he was known as Allah's Khalil ...

Malik's Muwatta

Book 45, Number 45.1.2:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Suhayl ibn Abi Salih from his father that Abu Hurayra said, "When people saw the first fruits of the season, they brought them to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took them and said, 'O Allah! Bless us in our fruits. Bless us in our city. Bless us in our sa and bless us in our mudd. O Allah! Ibrahim is Your slave, Your Khalil and Your Prophet. I am Your slave and Your Prophet. He prayed to You for Makka. I pray to You for Madina for the like of what He prayed to You for Makka, and the like of it with it.' Then he called the smallest child he saw and gave him the fruits."

Now just because we don't find this title being given to all the other Prophets, doesn't mean that they are not considered to be Allah's friends. Allah, due to His infinite wisdom selectively chose whom He would like to give certain titles to and Jesus (peace be upon him) was selected to receive specific titles as well.
