male and female relationship

:salam2: i would like to know people opinion about male and female having relationships other than marriage and family connection. does islam really forbid us from walking with the ppl of the opposite sex in public? how about man and woman sitting together, (only two of them) bt not too close in public?

another question, is it a sin if we hurt others feelings by saying and by action? how about if we dont realize our mistake?

i hope anyone could explain with relevant answers and with the proofs from any Quran or sunnah.
