Eventful evening, Saved by God

Yesterday evening started like any other evening. I left work, drove to the sitter and picked up the baby and headed home. As I was about to turn on to my street I found it blocked full of fire trucks. My heart sank and then panicked that it may be my house. I went around the block trying to gauge where the smoke was and it was coming from the area of my home. I burst into tears and was crying to God "Please God, don't let it be my house, PLEASE! What will I do?" As I rounded back to the other end of my street I parked and was able to view that it was NOT my house, but my handicapped neighbors. Both are in wheelchairs, the wife is legless. They both suffer terrible diabetes and were renting the house next door for some 22 years. They had let her 27 year granddaughter stay there with them the last few months. As it turns out she is a smoker and while the couple was away she neglected a cigarette and the only home and all the possessions, which were few including loved cats were destroyed. Can you imagine the heartbreak the couple felt as they came home and found their world destroyed? I noticed the granddaughter had no shoes on her feet and the ground was wet, so I took off the flip flops I was wearing and gave them to her......I had nothing to offer the elderly lady but a sweater to wear as it was getting chilly. In that moment I was both relieved and felt guilty. Here I was fearing it was my home and rejoiced when I realized it was not, but my neighbors were now homeless! I thanked God for all his blessings on me and my family. The neighbors on the other side of that house suffered melted siding from the heat of the fire and my house suffered NO damage whatsoever.....alhumdullilah! God is Great! Please though make duaa for this elderly couple!

Salam Sister,

I just wanted to say Alhamdulilah it wasn't your house however I REALLY feel for your neighbours and I'm hoping that they have people to help them within your community.

These things happen for a reason and it's Allah's will. At the same time all the neighbours and people within the vicinity are being tested by the Almighty to see who will reach out to them and give them a helping hand.

If there is anything we can do to help please let us know.

I have no idea how to help right now. Not sure where they were taken to stay last night. I am hoping the Red Cross or Social Services will get them both into an assisted living facility to help care for their special needs. If this is done, then all they will really need are clothes and I can do some secondhand shopping this weekend for them. I appreciate all prayers for them! And again I feel very Blessed that my family was spared any damage. Our houses are like 10 feet apart. Anything could have happened.

Alhamduliallah sister..that is of Allah's bounty upon you..
even if the house was damaged (Allah forbid!)..neither were you or the baby would've been hurt cuz you would've been out of the house..alhamduliallah

I'm so glad you're taking the time to help these people out..Inshallah Allah (swt) will grant you ajer (reward) for it in this dunya (life) and the akhirah (hereafter)

and they will be in my prayers inshallah!

alhumdullilah to know that your house was safe.
It’s great of you to offer your shoes and your sweater to someone.
try to see if you can refer them to red cross ,or if your street can organize a bake or a garage sale to help them out. hopefully they had a home insurance policy on the house.
and the policy should cover hotel expence

Red Cross was called by the Firemen and so they are helping them out currently. Unfortunately, they were renting the house and had no renters insurance as he was on disability and a fixed income. Your ideas are great ones, unfortunately, I think some of my neighbors are going to be glad to see them gone, though not necessarily by this event. And yes alhumdullilah my house was spared!!!
