Are we really THAT CLEAN?

Striving For Jannah
Islam promotes cleanliness & good hygiene. We are told to wash our hands before eating, wash ourselves & make sure our clothes are clean before praying, cutting our nails, shaving our underarm and pubic hair, doing ghusl, etc. By this standard, Muslims should be the cleaner than the average population. What happens to that when it comes to keeping our environment clean? If you have ever been to hajj you'll know what I'm talking about.

The worst are the toilets. Is it that hard to leave the toilets clean for the next person? You may be thinking, "But that's what you get when 1000s of people come together in one place". But does that excuse us? It is lack of thought both for oneself and for others. For thoughtful people know that others will be disturbed by any place they have dirtied. Muslims have been warned repeatedly of spoiling this earth through mischief.

The Quran says:
And do not corrupt in the earth after being tilled, and invoke Him in fear and longing. Surely the mercy of Allah is near to the fair-doers. (Al-A`raf 7:56)

And when he turns away, he [diligently] endeavors about the earth to corrupt in it and cause the tillage and stock to perish; and Allah does not love corruption. (Al-Baqarah 2:205)

Corruption has appeared in the land and the sea for what mankind’s hands have earned, that He may make them taste some [part] of that which they have done, that possibly they would return. (Ar-Rum 30:41)The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
And to remove a harmful thing from the way is also sadaqah (a charity).” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

While a man was passing along a road, he saw a thorny branch. He removed it. Allah appreciated his action and forgave him.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim.)

This goes to show the importance of cleanliness in Islam. So, keep in mind, that it is not limited to our personal hygiene but includes our homes, places of worship and the places we live and work.

Well, Tunisia in the non-tourist spots is VERY DIRTY as well........I don't think they know what trash cans are or understand that littering is against their faith.........I know there is litter in America, but nothing like what I saw there....we do try to clean as much off our streets and roads and neighborhoods as possible...................That, the toilets and the rude women are my biggest complaints about Tunis........

OH and how they leave the meat hanging outside the butcher shop for flies to land on ......EEEEKKKKKKKKSSSSSS!!!!!!!
