i request all my brothers and sisters to sign this petition so we can tell wikipedia to remove them.

I do not want to discourage you, but in general, online petition are fruitless.

And the fact that old artworks with depictions of Prophet Mohammad are pretty easy to find on the Internet (and i have a couple of books on Islam that have them - although not all show a face, many just have like a white flame for a face), makes it pretty hard to fight one particular website for the removal.

Good luck with your petition anyway.

Why are you so negative?
and so harsh?
please kindly note that these little things do count in the eyes of Allah who commanded us to fight those who are attacking our religion and these people are doing exactly that.
So i think the Islamic Ummah should wake up and do these little things if they cannot do the big ones and Inshaalah one day we will explode in the faces of injustice and the kuffars.

By the way i signed the petition.:hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts:
May Allah strengthen our Emaaan :tti_sister: ameen

My intention wasn't to be harsh, but realistic. Go ahead, sign the petition - I never said not to.

I have been in the user-end of the computer business for nearly 20 years, have true business experience, and have a politician in my close family. Internet petitions (and email petitions) - whether for a cause, against a business or practice, or for/against a political item - really do nothing for any purpose, except maybe to share information. Internet petitions are not taken seriously because they are too easy to fake (someone could login at a whole bunch of different computers and use fake names) and too difficult to verify. Even pen & paper petitions (which are much easier to fact-check) are not legal documents and only serve the purpose to share the people's opinion.

My other point was simply that it would be difficult for Wikipedia to take the petition seriously since there are pictures (old artwork type) depicting Prophet Mohammad on various sites around the internet - thereby, they may argue, why are they being targeted? And where are the petitions to all the other sites? It personally took me 1 google search to find at least 3 different sites with pictures (and again, I am not talking about the Danish cartoons or political cartoons), and I didn't even go on to the second page of results.

Sign the petition, sign away! Insha'Allah this may be the one online petition that goes somewhere. But a better choice would be to personally contact the people that run the Wikipedia website, explain the situation (there are many people who don't understand the idea of the pictures), and calmly request the pictures be removed - then perhaps find a network of people (around the world, with wikipedia being used around the world) that would work together with a letter writing campaign (real letters are more effective than email) and a pen & paper petition if necessary. Of course, letters should be mature and explanatory (with correct spelling and grammar, no matter what language they are sent it), not angry and accusing, if you want them to be read.

you know what we need. We need someone to start a petition for the muslims around the world to stop comitting biddah(innovation), shirk, worshiping graves, doing magic, fighitng for tradition and helping in destroying sunnah. I wanna see how many muslims will sign that. Muslims are worried about someon drawing a picture of resulullah svs, which is not him although, but they dont care about not following his sunnah. The one who assists in biddah and does biddah is not actually working for islam but instead, destroying it. Instead for muslims to start uprisings and riots, they should consult their scholars of what to do. Why do we take everything in our hands? We dont do anything good but just cause more problems to this ummah.

Good Point. I personally learned that the hard way so I know where you are coming from. In my opinion best thing to do is just speak to the person in charge directly for issues like this.

i think the problem is that wikipedia and other media outlets, do not feel that they have the same obligation as we muslims do to not portray the images of our holy figures. they do after all show their holy figures all of the time without any thought. i respect your desire to get them to remove the images, but unfortunately i think it's a fight that we aren't going to win. why? because they are kuffar and love being kuffar, and because the images aren't disparaging they can use the excuse that the images in and of themselves are not offensive. which will allow them to continue the usage of the images, getting support from non believers for not backing down against us.
