Some questions I have

Greetings everyone;

I have a few questions and forgive me if they offend.

My first question is about the hadith and Muhammad.
I have read from several sources that Muhammad would often do things that would upset his congregation then have a sura the next day or so defending his actions.
I know no one could possibly know; but what was the time line to things like this?
I talk about marrying his adopted sons wife for example.

Second question is I found this..
Writes Ibn Ishaq:

The apostle made for a rock on the mountain to climb it. He had become heavy by reason of his age, and moreover he had put on two coats of mail(1), so when he tried to get up he could not do so. Talha b. 'Ubaydullah squatted beneath him and lifted him up until he settled comfortably upon it.

Yes, the apostle of Allah, the perfect prophet, the model for all times, was a fatty. "Old age" is no excuse here; several years of having mental slaves cater to his every whim seems like a more likely reason. The man who preached moderation to his followers had a problem maintaining moderation himself.Source: The Life of Muhammad: A Translation of Ishaq's Sirat Rasul Allah p. 383. (Context: pp. 370-391.)

Can this mean Muhammad gave into temptation or overindulgences of sorts?

How can a person be so sure Muhammad was truthful about the revolations?

Hi there.

Thank you for your concern about our possible reactions. You spoke of how revelations came down which defended the actions of the Prophet sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam. Did you know that this was not always the case? What I mean is, for example that there was an instance where the Prophet Muhammad, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam was with his companions, Abu Bakr and `Umar. They were trying to decide what to do in a given situation (it was regarding some events that took place after the battle of badr), and the Prophet, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam was pleased with Abu Bakr's decision. However, at some point later, a revelation came which made clear that in fact, `Umar's decision was more a more befitting and suitable decision. Also, the Prophet sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam would ask forgiveness for his uncle, Abu Taalib after he died. Upon doing so, Allaah made clear that such forgiveness could not be sought, since he had died upon shirk (associating partners with Allaah in his worship or lordship). I'm sorry, I will have to search for the references later as I do not have them with me (of course, the vereses are in the Qu'raan).

As for the small section that you have pasted, then it doesn't refer to hadeeth literature, nor does the style of writing (or possibly the translation) confirm with the traditional way that scholars and historians would record the seerah (biography) of Muhammad, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam and it contradicts what has been reported regarding the prophet, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam. Due to these reasons, its lack of reference, its severe peculiarity and the life of Muhammad, sall-Allaahu `alayhi wasallam as we know it, I wouldn't even accept the authenticity of that report. Please note that it isn't my way of denying what I don't like to read, rather it is from the way of the people of the Prophet's Sunnah (way) to only accept those narrations which are proven to be authentic and do not contradict other authentic narrations.

I hope this helps you.

Salaam,

Would you be so kind as to inform us where you are on your spritual journey. It would help us give you answers. We seldom use the name of the Prophet, ay the peace and blessings of Allah subhana talla be upon him. We usually call him the Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah subhana talla be upon him.

The first question i dont understand but the second question i would rather say our beloved prophet was down to earth. how do we prov this?

There are many reports of the hard and difficult times which Fatimah had to face. Often there was no food in her house. Once the Prophet was hungry. He went to one after another of his wives' apartments but there was no food. He then went to Fatimah's house and she had no food either. When he eventually got some food, he sent two loaves and a piece of meat to Fatimah. At another time, he went to the house of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari and from the food he was given, he saved some for her. Fatimah also knew that the Prophet was without food for long periods and she in turn would take food to him when she could. Once she took a piece of barley bread and he, said to her: "This is the first food your father has eaten for three days."Frpm the biography of Fatimah bint Muhammad (peace be upon him)

Imam Bukhari related on the authority of Anas Ibn Malik who said Abu Talhah said to Umm Sulaym: ? I have noticed feebleness in the voice of Allah?s Messenger (pbuh) which I think, is caused by hunger. Have you got any food?? She said: ?Yes.? She brought out some loaves of barley and took out a veil belonging to her, and wrapped the bread in part of it and put it under my arm and wrapped part of the veil round me and sent me to Allah?s Messenger. I carried it and found Allah?s Messenger in the Mosque sitting with some people. When I stood there, Allah?s Messenger asked..

?Has Abu Talhah sent you?? I said: ?Yes?. He asked: ?With some food?? I said: ?Yes?. The Prophet (pbuh) then said to the men around him: ?Get up!? He set out (accompanied by them) and I went ahead of them till I reached Abu Talhah and told him (of the Prophet?s visit). Abu Talhah said: ?O Umm Sulaym! Allah?s Messenger is coming with the people and we have no food to feed them? She said: ?Allah and his Messenger know better.? So Abu Talhah went out to receive Allah?s Messenger .

Allah?s Messenger came along with Abu Talhah and said: ?O Umm Sulaym! Bring whatever you have.? She brought the bread, which Allah?s Messenger ordered to be broken into pieces. Umm Sulaym poured on them some butter from an oilskin. Then Allah?s Messenger recited what Allah wished him to recite, and then said: ?Let ten persons come (to share the meal).? Ten persons were admitted, and when they were full, they went out. The he again said: ?Let another ten do the same.? They were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said: ?Let another ten persons (do the same).? In short, all of them ate their fill, and they were seventy or eighty men.? Narrated by Al Bukhari, book of: ?The merits of the Prophet (pbuh)?.

Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) says

"I wish you had seen some of us living on a starvation diet for several days, successively, so much so that we could not even stand erect. On account of spasms of hunger, I would lie on my belly and press my stomach against the ground or keep a stone tied to my abdomen.

Once, I intentionally sat in wait for some notable people to pass that way. As Abu Bakr (may Allaah be pleased with him) came along, I joined in conversation with him, intending to continue the talk till we reach his home, where I expected him to invite me to share his meals, as was his wont. But his answer was brief, and my plan did not work..

The same thing happened with Umar, (may Allaah be pleased with him) when he chanced that way. The Prophet (peace be upon him) himself was the next to come. A smile spread on his face when he saw me, for he at once divined why I was sitting there. 'Come with me, Abu Hurairah', he said, and I accompanied him to his house.

He took me in, where a bowl of milk was brought before him. He asked, 'Who brought this milk?" and was told that somebody had sent it as a present. He bade me to go and invite all the Suffah friends. The Suffah people were treated as everyone's guests by all the Muslims. They were such persons who had neither hearth nor home of their own, nor any other means of livelihood.

Their number varied with time. But at this particular juncture, they mustered seventy in all. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would send them in groups of two or four each to the well-to-do Sahabah as guests. He himself would pass on to them all that came to him as 'Sadaqah', and would share the gifts too with them."

Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him) says:

"When the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked me to invite all these persons, I naturally had some misgivings, for the milk was so little that it could hardly suffice a single person. Also, I was aware that the Prophet (peace be upon him) would ask myself to serve the milk to the others first, and a server is always the last and, more often than not, gets the least of the lot. Anyway, out I went, and fetched them all.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me: Abu Hurairah (may Allaah be pleased with him), do serve the milk to them.' I took the bowl to each person in turn, and he drank the contents to his heart's desire, and returned the same to me, till all of them were served. The Prophet (peace be upon him) then held the goblet in his own hand, smiled at me, and remarked;

Only two of us are left now!' 'Quite so', I replied. 'Then take it,' he said. I needed no second bidding, and took enough. He exhorted me to have more, and I had my fill; till I declared that I had no room for any more. He then took hold of the bowl, and drank the still remaining milk.

now you tell did he live in luxury and grew fat ?

truthful about the revelation ? i can tell you this whatever the jews and the christians have in there revelations (which is unchanged by man) you will find it in the HOLY QURAN.

First of all no Muslim scholar would write hadeeth that way or use the silly language that contains in your post. I'm assuming you stated your own opinion on the second paragraph.
Also your supposed "hadeeth" does not make any sense.

Ishaq is not a compilation of hadeeth , and the originial work of Ishaq only survives through At Tabari and another scholar in a revised form.

Salaam,

I hope my brothers and sisters have helped with your questions. It takes time to digest the information. It is important that you understand one of the foundations of Islam is the fact we have recorded everything. There is little or no room for speculation. Take your time and remember should something not be clear ask we one of us will take time review with you.

Subhana Allah!
asalamu alaykum(peace be with u):)
ok i'm gonna try to answer ur first i kind of don't get ur second one. ok here u go.
Zaynab Bint Jahsh: She was the daughter of Prophet Muhammad’s aunt. He recommended his aunt for Zaynab to marry Zayd ibn-Harithah, a freed slave and adopted son of the Prophet. This marriage was done to show equality and brotherhood and to end the discrimination of the poor and the slaves. The marriage ended in a divorce though efforts were made by Prophet Muhammad to persuade them to stay together. Allah then commanded for Prophet Muhammad to marry Zaynab. This marriage showed that adopted sons were not real sons and that wives or widows of adopted sons were not real daughter-in-laws.

Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember - Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward. (35) And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest. (36) And when thou saidst unto him on whom Allah hath conferred favour and thou hast conferred favour: Keep thy wife to thyself, and fear Allah. And thou didst hide in thy mind that which Allah was to bring to light, and thou didst fear mankind whereas Allah hath a better right that thou shouldst fear Him. So when Zeyd had performed that necessary formality (of divorce) from her, We gave her unto thee in marriage, so that (henceforth) there may be no sin for believers in respect of wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have performed the necessary formality (of release) from them. The commandment of Allah must be fulfilled. (37) There is no reproach for the Prophet in that which Allah maketh his due. That was Allah's way with those who passed away of old - and the commandment of Allah is certain destiny - (38) Who delivered the messages of Allah and feared Him, and feared none save Allah. Allah keepeth good account. (39) Muhammad is not the father of any man among you, but he is the messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah is ever Aware of all things. (40) quran:33:verses 35-40

i hope this helps,Alhamdulilah(praise be to Allah) take care:)

Assuming that this story about climbing the rock is true, how did you assume that he is 'fatty'. is it the word "become heavy". if it is, so as an arabic man and my mother language is arabic and I always read tradetional arabic I assure you that you assumed wrong.
Simply "become heavy" (THAQUOLA is the arabic word) in this position means that his movment became slow or not as easy as before.
The correct resourses of hadeth and sirat show that Rasul Allah Salla Allah 3aliah wa salam was not fat, and he used to have small meals, and he used to stay for months without having cooked food in his house.
Also you said"I have read from several sources that Muhammad would often do things that would upset his congregation" .If you have particular story to prove that, Just mention it so that we can discuss it.
It is obvious that you are having your knowledge about Islam frrom the enemey of Islam.
If you realy want to learn about any religion you should learn it from its follwer not from the pepeole who hate it.
May allah guied you to his path.

MaashaaAllah, sister i believe u quoted these words from the orientalists. they only know Islam from the sidelines only because they never practice it. if they do its also not from their heart.
They don't even know the true life of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. that's why they described him as fat. how can one be fat if every mon/thur fasting? that's the real Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.
besides as we read the history of Saideenah Hamza (Prophet's uncle) and Saideenah Ali (Prophet's cousin) they were tall & handsome guys during their young age. genetically Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. could have resemblence feature to them - like us with our relatives right?
the only thing that always in my mind about our Prophet s.a.w is he always smile as smile is charity as what RasoolAllah said.

(may Allah pour the highest decree of blessing to Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.) ameen.

Hadeeth No. 3305 - Narrated Rabia bin Abi Abdur-Rahman:

I heard Anas bin Malik describing the Prophet saying, "He was of medium height amongst the people, neither tall nor short; he had a rosy color, neither absolutely white nor deep brown; his hair was neither completely curly nor quite lank. Divine Inspiration was revealed to him when he was forty years old. He stayed ten years in Mecca receiving the Divine Inspiration, and stayed in Medina for ten more years. When he expired, he had scarcely twenty white hairs in his head and beard." Rabi'a said, "I saw some of his hairs and it was red. When I asked about that, I was told that it turned red because of scent. "

Hadeeth No. 3306 - Narrated Anas:

Allah's Apostle was neither very tall nor short, neither absolutely white nor deep brown. His hair was neither curly nor lank. Allah sent him (as an Apostle) when he was forty years old. Afterwards he resided in Mecca for ten years and in Medina for ten more years. When Allah took him unto Him, there was scarcely twenty white hairs in his head and beard.

Hadeeth No. 3307 - Narrated Al-Bara:

Allah's Apostle was the handsomest of all the people, and had the best appearance. He was neither very tall nor short.

Hadeeth No. 3308 - Narrated Qatada:

I asked Anas, "Did the Prophet use to dye (his) hair?" He said, "No, for there were only a few white hairs on his temples."

Hadeeth No. 3309 - Narrated Al-Bara:

The Prophet was of moderate height having broad shoulders (long) hair reaching his ear-lobes. Once I saw him in a red cloak and I had never seen a more handsome than him."

Hadeeth No. 3310 - Narrated Abu Ishaq:

Al-Bara' was asked, "Was the face of the Prophet (as bright) as a sword?" He said, "No, but (as bright) as a moon."

Hadeeth No. 3311 - Narrated Abu Juhaifa:

Once Allah's Apostle went to Al-Batha' at noon, performed the ablution and offered' a two Rakat Zuhr prayer and a two-Rak'at 'Asr prayer while a spearheaded stick was planted before him and the passersby were passing in front of it. (After the prayer), the people got up and held the hands of the Prophet and passed them on their faces. I also took his hand and kept it on my face and noticed that it was colder than ice, and its smell was nicer than musk.

Hadeeth No. 3312 - Narrated Ibn Abbas:

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR YOUR RESEARCH:

1. Some muslims who went astray or even non-muslims who dedicated thier lives to fight islam would fake some Hadiths and relate them to our Prophet peace be upon him. So try to make sure that what you hear, see or read is authentic.

2. Same thing goes for false quotations of trusted islamic scholars.

3. Translation of the Holy Quran and Hadith can never be 100% accurate and may lead to different meanings. So i'd suggest that you try learning at least the basics of arabic language.

4. It is hard to see the truth even when its in front of us as crystal clear, But for someone who's really blessed it'll become easy by the will of Allah.

5. Prophet Mohammed may pease be upon him tought us to follow our hearts when confued, and thats what you sould do.

6. All the time and effort spent on sreaching for the truth and learning about islam is 1 million% woth it, ask any revert and he/she'll tell you that.

I didn't want to answer your questions because i know that many of my brothers and sisters on this forum would be pleased to do so.. I just wanted to spare you some of the confusions you may face on your quest..:)

Good luck.
