A story to learn from..

Since last night my young son has been unwell. When I got back from work this evening I decided to take him to hospital despite my exhaustion. There were many waiting; perhaps we will be delayed by more than an hour. I took my number and sat down in the waiting room. There were many faces, young and old, but all silent. Some brothers made use of the many booklets available in the waiting room. Some of those waiting had their eyes closed, while others were looking around. Most were bored. Once in a while the long silence was broken by a nurse calling out a number. Happiness appears on the one whose turn it is, and he gets up quickly; then silence returns.

A young man grabbed my attention. He was reading a pocket-sized Quran continuously; not raising his head even once. At first I did not think much about him. However, after one hour of waiting my casual glances turned into a deep reflection about his lifestyle and how he utilizes his time. One hour of life wasted! Instead of making benefit of that hour, it was just a boring wait. Then the call for prayer was made. We went to prayer in the hospital's Masjid. I tried to pray close to the man who was reading the Quran earlier in the waiting room. After the prayer I walked with him. I informed him of how impressed I was of him and how he tries to benefit from his time.

He told me that most of our time is wasted without any benefit. These are days that go from our lives without being conscious of them or regretting their waste. He said that he started carrying the pocket-sized Quran around when a friend encouraged him to make full use of his time. He told me that in the time other people waste he gets to read much more of the Quran than he gets to read either at home or in the Masjid. Moreover, besides the reward of reading the Quran, this habit saves him from boredom and stress.

He added that he has now been waiting for one and a half hours. Then he asked, when will you find one and a half hours to read the Quran? I reflected; how much time do we waste? How many moments of our lives pass by, and yet we do not account for how they passed by? Indeed, how many months pass by and we do not read the Quran? I came to respect my companion, and I discovered that I am to stand for account and that time is not in my hand; so what am I waiting for?
My thoughts were interrupted by the nurse calling out my number; I went to the doctor. But I want to achieve something now. After I left the hospital I quickly went to the bookshop and bought a pocket-sized Quran. I decided to be mindful of how I spend the time.

If this information is beneficial to you, then please do forward it to your friends and relatives. Our Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said; 'Whoever guides or directs to good, then he gets the same amount of blessing (reward) as the one who does it' The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) also said 'Pass on knowledge from me even if it is only one verse'

A traveller's story

:salam2:, Jazakallah khayran for the precious experience shared with us. One day I was on the road & while waiting for a the green traffic light, I saw a muslim man read his pocket quran in between the many stops of the traffic lights..I was touched by his initiative indeed.

I am new to TTI lounge and I would want to attach a knowledge material to be shared with all the muslims in TTI but am not sure if I m allowed to enclose any attachment here. Anyway..I know most of us are very busy people ( juggle in between family, career, business & personal trips, investment & properties, various interests etc) but I do hope our readers find the time to read " stations of travellers [madaarij as saalikeen]" by Imam Ibn ul Qayyim al Jawziyyah . MasyaAllah...If we can improve our state of mind and know when, how & what to prioritise in our life, [ perhaps step by step] & able to apply all the states mentioned throughout our journey, we then know what is like to be successed in life, this life & hereafter. It may sound too holy, perfection, too far to grasp but dont we want to be on the right path.. so lets start somewhere before it s too late..

Couple of months back.. a pakistani senior muslim whom worked in the same office as mine was about to cross the road .. nobody knew the noon he stood at the edge of the road wanted to cross from the corniche parking spot to our office building.. he was killed promptly when a speeding car rammed into him out of nowhere.. Nobody promised we ll reach the age of our parents.. ok maybe we have heard that so many times that it doesnt move us still .. Have you experienced the first chance we flew in a plane and we came across a headline news reads " plane crash leaves 245 dead '... What do we feel? Dont we feel like the ground beneath us has been snatched away from us. What will happen to us if our plane crash. What if the plane we sit in was the one that crashed? What if we are among the 245 dead? With that in mind, we resolve & promised silently to change our ways. But as soon as we get off the plane, we forget everything and continue as normal until the next time we get on the return flight and it all begin all over again....This is a reminder to myself as well.. InsyaAllah.

May Allah guide us all Ameen.
The practice of reading Quran while travelling is really good and beneficial. I learnt through my own experience when I decided to remember Allah by doing Wird (reciting His good Names) or:astag: while travelling as it makes me feel that I have consummed my time in earning Allah's pleasure and Ibada. I no more complain of long travelling to work but I feel of good opportunity to sit and do Ibada. I see people arround me sitting and hearing songs on Mp3 player which I never liked. I decided to get my Mp3 and hear Nasheeds and those songs which are in praise of Allah mostly sung by brother Islam Yousuf and brother Sami Yousuf May Allah Bless them Ameen.
I am very happy for these my acts . Rem in duas.
