question about charities

we muslims know that ALLAH SWT orders us to contribute financially to the muslim community by paying the poor-rate known to us as Zakat. we also know how much reward there is in paying the zakat, so we strive hard to obey ALLAH SWT in His command for us to pay. well, i have given in zakat and i must say that it is a wonderful feeling to be able to help my needy brothers and sisters in islam. but i also want to contribute more every now and then in what is called sadaqa. there are various form of sadaqa, even smiling is a form of sadaqa. but i'm really talking about the financial version of sadaqa. sadaqa that is given to orphans, my brothers in palestine, darfur, bosnia, checnya etc. but there is a fear in my heart about sending donations through many of our islamic organizations. my fear isn't about the organizations mishandling the funds, but rather my government accusing me and the organization of using the funds to support " terrorist " organizations.

i'm always seeing in the news that almost every major islamic organization that works in charity is accused by the government as having some sort of illegal ties. therefore, creating a fear for some muslims to contribute to these organizations due to fear of some form of legal troubles.

basically, my question is, have any of you held back on donating to muslim organizations ( international )for fear of some type of backlash. not the groups misusing money, but fear that you will be linked with a criminal group that you have nothing to do with?

Assalamu alaykum,
Every month I give some money and I pay over the internet using my card to Muslim Aid or Islamic Relief. I don't think there is any harm in paying this way so you could try paying like that. Alternatively you could just go to you local mosque and put some money in a charity box. It's more discreet that way, as nobody knows who has given what.

:salam2: dear brother, it is always good to look into any charity you give to and i believe i can recommend two that should cause you no grief from my own experience from living in florida until july.... islamic relief and kinderusa... both help out muslims in need all over the globe including palestine and bangladesh.

thank you very much for the advice. i always give to charity at the masjid level, but i'm interested in helping on the international level, which unfortunately isn't where my masjid donation isn't going. it's that i've always had a fear of wrongfully being put on some kind of terror watch list or something. because it seems as if the media and the goverment always portray each islamic charity group as a sponsor for AL QAEDA or something.

i will give the charity groups you mentioned a try.

it is possible that it could be the shaytan could be putting fear in my head.

i mean i never have a problem with giving to charitable causes or helping needy people that have come to me for help. i just need to conquer that fear.
