4 Hindu terrorists held for Malegaon blasts

MUMBAI/PATNA: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) yesterday claimed to have made a breakthrough in the bomb blasts in Malegaon in Maharashtra and Modasa in Gujarat with the arrest of 4 people. The blasts killed six Muslims on Sept. 29.

Among those arrested was a 25-year-old woman priest Pragya Singh Thakur from Surat in Gujarat, who was closely associated with the Hindu militant outfit, Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The others arrested were identified as Shyam Shahu, Dilip Nahar and Shivnarain Singh, all from Indore, and Dharmendra Bairagi from Dewas town in Madhya Pradesh. All the accused have been brought to Mumbai for interrogation.

Pragya’s relatives in Surat told journalists that they had broken all ties with the accused several years ago. Chandrapal Thakur, father of Pragya, however, defended his daughter and said that she would never have been involved in such acts.

According to Sukhvinder Singh, the ATS additional commissioner of police, an ATS team from Nashik had been camping in Indore for three weeks and returned to Mumbai with the suspects on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray may now face a murder charge after the father of Pawan Kumar, the youth who was allegedly killed by MNS activists in Mumbai, filed a case against the party chief in a Bihar court yesterday.

Pawan’s father Jagdish Prasad filed a murder case against Raj under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the court of chief judicial magistrate in Biharsharif, the district headquarters of Nalanda, about 100 km from Patna, court sources said. Prasad has accused Raj and MNS activists of killing his son in Mumbai last Sunday.

:salam2: Thank you for keeping us informed, brother. I did want to ask if these murders of muslims by hindu terrorists are on the increase in India? I lived in the States for 14 years until July and these murders never hit mainstream media (little surprise there) so I am very ignorant about this. Do Muslims have good representation within the police framework in India? As an outsider, reading some previous articles on TTI, sometimes it feels like the non-Muslim police do not really care about the terrorism and murder of innocents and do little to find the culprits or stop these abominable acts.

Also, to inform the uneducated..... Do ordinary Hindus and Muslims in India live side by side in relative peace despite their religious differences? In my former corporate life, I had several colleagues in Mumbai and Dehli who were Hindu but I could never ask them about tensions between the communities in India as this would have overstepped the professional relationship.

Also, could you give us an approximate % breakdown of how much of the population in India is Muslim?

Sorry for so many questions, I am trying to better understand the situation and the plight of our dear Muslim brothers and sisters in India.

Jazak Allahu Khair,

Jazak Allahu Khair,

:wasalam:

Islam in India is the second-most practiced religion after Hinduism. There are approximately 154 million Muslims in India's population as of 2008 (according to government census 2001), i.e., 13.4% of the population. Currently, India has the third largest population of Muslims in the world.

this will give you some picture of hindu-muslim communal violence..

well riots take place now and then in india... and mainly its the corrupt politicians who are behind this...

Innocent muslims can expect little justice in a country of ours ...even the judiciary is tainted by corruption... pray for the muslim ummah here in india..

Arrested armymen played major role in Malegaon blast

The Mumbai police on Wednesday alleged that the two retired army officers arrested in connection with the Malegaon blast were "a part of the larger conspiracy" and played a "major role" in the blast.

Blasts: Sadhvi, 2 others charged with murder

The two retired officers arrested on Tuesday, Sameer Kulkarni (34) and Ramesh Upadhyay (57) have been remanded to police custody till November 10 by a Nashik court, Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS), Sukhvinder Singh told reporters.

Upadhyay is a retired army major and founder of Abhinav Bharat and Kulkarni a right wing activist. While Upadhyay was arrested from Pune, Kulkarni was picked up from Madhya Pradesh [Images]

They have been booked for attempt to murder under Indian Explosives Act, he said.
