As Salaam Aleykom Wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatou,

I have been watching a series of great lectures by a very knowledged revert who goes by the name of Abdul Ahad. This brother was a born again Christian and spent years studying the Jesus (as) from Christian sources and from historical sources. He now is a Muslim Alhamdulillah and now uses the Quran, Sunnah and only historical sources to get a good picture of the real Jesus Christ(as). He does not use the Bible and has good reasons to do so. I would recommend everyone to watch his lectures inshaAllah. I love the approach of this brother and it makes much more sense than going to the Christian bible and try to find the real Jesus in there. The New Testament is not the Injeel of Isa (as) so there is no need to even waste time with it. It is actually a lie against Isa and the brother Abdul Ahad tells us why. Below are the links:

This is not accurate. The prophet, peace be upon him said, "When the children of Israel quote [from the Bible], do not believe them and do not call them liars!"

Why is that? Because we are told by God in the Quran that the books of the Jews and the Christians have been edited. Thus they contain the truth and they also contain lies. Portions of the scriptures remained unchanged from the original revelations and other portions have been altered. We do not know and we have not been told which is which.

Therefore, our attitude toward the Bible is one of respect because it still has words from God. When we argue with the people of the Book we must do so "in the most beautiful manner."

that is true but I mean there is so much that is obviously false and all we are saying is that we can also look at historical sources. No doubt there contains truth abouth monotheism and other things and it even says that Jesus (as) would go to such and such place and "preach the Gospel". But the Bible wont say what it was. There is also falsehood in the bible and contradictions so shouldn't trust it and rely on it but that don't mean we have to sit and take everything the Christian tells us and they also accuse us of picking and chosing from the scripture as we please. But I am not denying that there is true things in the Bible.

Portions of the scriptures remained unchanged from the original revelations and other portions have been altered. We do not know and we have not been told which is which.

Therefore, our attitude toward the Bible is one of respect because it still has words from God. When we argue with the people of the Book we must do so "in the most beautiful manner."

We also must remember that during the time of our Prophet (saaws) there was no English language and no "Bible" as we know today. The Jews do not read the same Bible as Christians and that again wouldn't include the new testament. Whatever the Jews of Madina was were reading at the time of Prophet Muhammad(saaws), was definetly not the "Bible" as we know it today. The Jews do not have a "new testament". There is also another hadith which asks "why do you go to the people of the book when you the Quran is in our presence and a new revealtion". It was clear already at the time of our Prophet (saaws) that their scriptures were not trust worthy. The Quran is the last revelation and anything the Christian or anyone brings to us as "evidence" must be examined against the Quran. If the Christian comes and tells us that God is a trinity, we have the right to deny it because Allah(swt) denies it Himself in his scripture(Quran). Besides we are not talking about the Jewish scripture but rather the Christian New Testament.

We also must keep in mind that what the Christians in northern Arabia, Syria and Mesopotamia could not have been all the same as today's because present day Christians don't even agree on what is "scripture". If you read the Bible in my native tongue (Aramaic, also believed to be the language spoken by Jesus pbuh), you'll be suprised that it is different. There are words, verses and books that are not the same as every other Bible. It is also important to note that the Christians of Mesopatamia and Syria(Jacobites/Nestorians) believed and knew the story of Jesus speaking as an infant and his breathing life into a bird. The Christians were trying to prove that Jesus was God based on those evidences, and that proves further that they were not reading the same scripture as today. Those stories are also mntioned in the Quran but are not in the modern day Bibles. If they were the same scriptures, the stories would be in there, but I know that Christians have not agreed on the same "scriptures".

What the brother in the video is saying is not that there is no truth in the present day Bible but it is hard to find truth in it when there is so much falsehood and not to mention they are translations based on copies from centuries apart from the time of Jesus(as). We can use the Quran itself to find out what really is truth and we don't need to intrpret our scripture based on the New Testament. If the Christian tells us Jesus (as) is God, can we not deny that? Of course we can because the Quran does so. Same with anything else which God rejects in the Quran, and even our prophet never ordered us to use the Bible to find truth in it. The hadiths must be examined in the context and then we can make sense of it.

Salaams

Salaam Aleykom, brother Ayman, thanks for the input and I agree with you about respecting them and Allah (swt) tells us to argue with them in "the most beautiful ways". If you noticed for the most part, the only time the Quran and the Bible contradicts one another is in places where the Bible contradicts itself. The Quran tells us that Jesus was the Messiah sent to the Children of Israel to bring them back to Tawhid, and submission to Allah, and we find such teachings in the bible as well, but we also find teachings which Jesus could not have said nor are those contradictions the word of Allah. As you rightly stated, we have the Quran.

Waleykom Salaam.
