salams because they are fighting a war,,,,,,,,,,,,,plus if they are known their famiies will be picked up and imprisoned etc because there is no justice for muslims any where in the world.

Sister um Mustafa is right...it is so their families do not get harmed..or even they get imprisoned or killed...the same thing is done by the Iraqi resistance...everyone from the leaders to the fighters..cover their faces..
It's not that they don't want people to know them..they just consider a *known identity* a weakness factor..so if they can avoid it..they of course do so

Usually, you will see special forces covering theirselves . Hamas is also a special force. Special force is not regular army but they are commandos or Gorillas, who go behind the enemy lines and sabotage important stuff.
Its for the purpose of hiding theirselves from rest of the world and spies specially. Also, this covering serves for another purpose. Lets suppose, some one gets captured and enemy does too much bad with him and ask him to recognize the persons with him. He wont be able to do so.
Doesnt matter if enemy cares or not, they neeed to take care.
By the way, i really like their kaffiyeh. I am learning how to cover myface with it, like they do. I wonder if i will get arrested if i go outside like that. ..lol

Brother please keep in mind that military never discloses it's tools. Another is Wikapedia is not 100 percent reliable since it can be edited by anybody. However in your dissertation you can quote that you used it as source and make sure you print a copy since information can change at any moment.
