عن مسروق ، قال
سألنا - أو سالت عبد الله ( أي ابن مسعود ) عن هذه الاية :
} ولاتحسبن الذين قتلوا فى سبيل الله أمواتا بل أحياء عند ربهم يرزقون { - قال : اما انا قد سالنا عن ذلك ، فقال :
(( ارواحهم فى جوف طير خضر ، لها قناديل معلقة بالعرش ، تسرح من الجنة حيث شاءت ، ثم تأوي الى تلك القناديل ، فاطلع اليهم ربهم اطلاعه فقال : هل تشتهون شيئا ؟ قالوا أي شئ نشتهي ونحن نسرح من الجنة حيث شئنا ؟ ففعل ذلك به ثلاث مرات ، فلما راوا أنهم لن يتركوا من أن يسألوا ، قالوا : يارب ، نريد أن ترد أرواحنا فى أجسادنا ، حتى نقتل فى سبيلك مرة أخرى فلما راى ان ليس لهم حاجة تركوا )) .
