I am from india occupied kashmir but right now i am at another place doing B.Tech.Recently i observed that here there is difference on qibla direction between hanafis and salafis with the direction of each at an angle of 90 degree with respect to each other.I even talked with both groups and each claims that his qibla is the right one.Now this area is a very backward one and there is no access to any modern equipment with which direction can be determined so what should i do.

if one is unsure of the exact location of the qibla, one is supposed to face the direction that he or she believes is most accurate. you mentioned that two madhabs have their qibla directions and you feel pretty sure that they're incorrect, which means that you may have to seek a middle ground. if possible try to purchase a qibla compass they are very accurate and very inexpensive.

Asalam o Alykum

Al-Tirmidhi (344) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “What is between the east and the west is qiblah.” (Al-Tirmidhi) said it is hasan saheeh, and it was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in his commentary on Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh (715)

if the deviation is slight, and is in the same direction as the qiblah – such as if the qiblah is towards the west, and they deviate slightly towards the north-west or south-west, then this does not matter and you should face this direction with them, because the ruling is that whoever is far away from the Ka’bah should face its general direction and does not have to face it precisely.

and lol dont laugh at this
im in islamabad pakistan , i had a serious issue with qibla direction we here face like lil tilt to right of west , so i used to think how this could be ,saudi arabia is on south west of pakistan ,,and all those question
so i went and opened google earth ,, and drew a line from my home to the Kabbah ( there is a tool available in the google earth ) and well it came the exact direction the masjids are ,a lil tilt to right of west ,,,so i finally understood why we face the west not south west ,well because islamabad while driving around may seem aligned East to west straight when it is not ,,,,,lol thats my part
so try that ,,
