Ok i have been thinking...I know that music is not good..but does that include Islamic music/nasheed...because this can have the same affect on you as listening to non islamic music...like it can distract you from doing what you are suppost to do...and you think just listening to it is good but you listen to the music more then you do salah etc...
I have heard many Islamic music with instrument that has this affect..and i have heard Islamic music with just the voice and it seems that a person voice has some affect too...i dont know ..i just want to hear what other people think...Oh and i one had an Imam say that they can do the same...

I found this same question too on another forum.. http://www.islamicity.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8695

ok

well no one replied so i did a little research on other sites...i think i answered my own question...ok this is what i think...
I think that we are questioning so much if music is haram or not i think we should just get rid of it all together...and we can replace it with Zhikr...

I've been wondering what the point of nasheed is if you don't understand everything thats being said. Also, ive seen alot of nasheeds that add music to it (i.e flutes, banjos and such), is it then haram?

yeah that's what i am thinking...I mean instead of listening to nasheed or Islamic song we can just make the Zhikr ourselves...
I think we are trying too hard to make music good...

I have been wondering the same thing myself because it seems the same to me. Even the nasheeds which contain no musical instruments still has the same effect and gives me the same feeling music gives. I still haven't found a satisfactory answer and maybe that is there are those of the opinion that music is haram all together and there are others who say it is not haram at all unless it contains unislamic content and it is about doing bad things. Allah knows best and we den't make the religion but He does. I have always felt that this should be something mentioned in the Quran but there is really nothing and hadeeths there are difficulties with that too because there are some which tells us the prophet himself allowed ppl to play, listen and perform with instruments while ppl were sitting there and enjoying it.

Any evidence for any ruling has to come from the Quran and the Sunnah. Nothing is haram unless we find evidence to support that and really nothing would be halal if there is evidence to support it. Allah knows best and I like to know the answer too.

I tried to look up verdicts on the issue in English but unfotunately I did not find anything good...

There are tons in Arabic though :(

Shaikhs such as Bin Baz, Al-Uthaymeen, Al-Albani (rahimahom allah), and Al-Jibreen, along with the scholars of the Council of Ifta'a in Saudi Arabia have all pretty much said...

If the nasheeds do not include instruments in the background..innovations and ostentations..and the like in their words..they are fine to listen to

So long we're sure they encourage noble behaviors and characteristics..worship of Allah (swt)..love of Rasulullah (pbuh)..loving other muslims..make charity..praise Jihad..etc. and they do not take up *all of our time*..and we leave the biggest room for dhikr..reading the Qura'an and studying the Sunnah..

So alhamdulillah they are allowed if they are *vocal* only..which sound much like *poems with a rhythem* to them...the ones with pianos..violins..and a million and one instruments..are no different than REGULAR SONGS..so they fall under their category...

Here's a link which gathers summaries of the fatwas I spoke about...though it's in Arabic..I felt I should at least provide the official source for what I am saying..and inshallah it will be sufficient :)

I agree with u. Lets replace with Zhikr. Why fight about this? there are so many threads about music and one person will post a fatwa that its allowed next will post a fatwa that its haram.

Its best to avoid what is doubtfull

you mean like the islamic raps..and what's the difference between music and song, because they say song is not haram. most music are songs..ugh!! but what the freaky thing is that if u listen to it too much, it'll get stuck in ur head, and we never know when we die, and when we do die, and the song/music is stuck there, then believe me it'll be so hard to say the shahadah, and singing those songs will be so easy. astagfirullah, who wants to go their lord while singing, oh the shame, we'll probably melt like butter, even worse. so pls i think even if u listen to music, pls dont listen too much. read the Qur'an here and there, and dont let it stop u from praying, etc.
