72 pictures per second....allowed???

My brother told me that when we watch TV, we are seeing 72 pictures per second. I am wondering why we are allowed to watch TV even if it is showing living things, but not allowed to use a real picture of a person who is on a horse, standing, giving a speech even in our avatars? Moving objects are more attractive than a non-moving object I guess.

Please brothers and sisters I am not intended to make arguments on this. I just hope someone can clarify my doubt.

P.S. Reference from an authentic source will be highly appreciated always. If not also, please keep in the limit of Islam.

I hope I will get an answer to this question of mine which is in my mind for months now.

Thank you for your understanding and kindness.

If one picture is not permissble, how can be 72 pictures permissble? it would be 72 time prohibited.

isn´t it somehow ajeeb!

If watching TV was prohibited...all the wonderful Islamic channels with SCHOLARS & MUFTIS be on them..broadcasting educational shows dealing with fiqh and the daily Muslim life..WOULD NOT BE IN EXISTENCE NOW! (mind you I am not even including the lectures recorded independently by Shaikhs which many of us have found INFINITE benefit from..mashallah)

If we think about TV that way..then let me tell you brother..the internet is pretty much the same!..if not worst!..as internet can contain topics and issues which contain KUFR (flat-out)..and our cell phones will follow as well..all these things have a margin of *benefit* and *harm*

A TV is like any other form of communication which certain needs or wants are met through..you cannot say it's halal or haram..wrong or right because its purpose and the verdict of it will differ according to *how* its used and *what* its used for..if someone for example has Al-Majd Channel on their TV along with Al-Ofasy Channel (which broadcasts Qura'an and such) and Iqraa'a Channel and they are watching shows educating them with their deen or helping them with dhikr..then would he/she be the same as someone who has..MTV..VH1..HBO..and all these other channels..listens to music in their shows/movies..watches the nudity in them..gets influenced by them..and forgets his/her Rab and deen because of them???..of course NOT..

It's not about the technology of the TV..how many pictures..and whether or not they are moving or non-moving it's about *WHAT* one watches on TV that can put him/her in *a murky puddle* or on a track towards betterment of knowledge and character..now even in the US you can have the choice in *picking* the channels you wish to be broadcasted within your home through packages tailoring to the ample number of preferences and mashallah many Muslim families are resorting to these options though they are pricier due to some stipulations but at least they can feel safe about what they all watch

So you see akhi..the issue here rests within the concious of the person with a TV at home..it depends on what *they* choose and *how* they go about their choices that *matters*..and Allah Knows best..

when i read about images being prohibited in islam. i always feel that the images being referred to are in the context of one creating images for the sole purpose of shirk. i don't think people are worshipping pictures of their children or pets. but there are people placing images of Ganesh, Jesus etc for the purpose of comitting shirk.

images like beards, smoking, music will be things that we muslims will always be debating about.

Jazakumullahu khairan for your kind explanation my respected brothers and sisters. I also watch TV my brothers and sisters. And I will be the same inshaAllah if not proven its wrong. However, my mind is telling me to clarify why it is like that. I have read different fatwas of 'Ulama with evidence that pictures of living things are completely Haram in Islam whether they are used for worship or not. And read hadith which says that the Angels will not enter a place which has pictures of living things.

However, I do not see any 'Ulama saying that TV is Haram although it shows 72 pictures per second. That is the reason why I want to clarify WHY it is like that. ( I meant why TV pictures are allowed but not even an Islamic avatar which contains a picture of a Man and/or Horse and/or Bird).

Hope the question is very clear now. I am not asking whether TV or Internet itself is Haram or not. If so, cars, telephones, computers etc will also be Haram right? So that makes no sense even if I ask that.

Waiting for a reply from any brother or sister.

The objection is to that of *created* images (this would include *photographs*..*paintings*..*statues*..etc.)

when you're watching a news broadcast on Aljazeera (for example)..you're watching a person *talk*..*move*..*blink*..etc. it is as if you're they're there..sitting *across* from you and you're looking at them while they talk to you..or even if you're watching a documentary..they will show *places*..*people*..or *animals* with the camera moving as if you're walking around and looking..it is pretty much how your *vision functions*..and *that* is different from hanging up a picture of say...puppies or that one actor from that one really cool movie..because first they are images *created*..second they contain a *still capture* of animate things..and three they contain things which are quiet un-islamic (i.e. idolizing impure animals & corrupt individuals)

I don't know if I am making much sense (it's 12:30 am where I live and I am very sleepy) but that's the best explanation I can *think* of..I would still ask an imam or shaikh about this to have scholarly information given to me..and so I'd feel more assured..and Allah Knows best
