I have just bought a Koran on Ebay. It's a translation by a guy called
Abdullah Yusuf does anyone know if he is an acurite ( as he can be anyway) in his translating. I probebly should have asked this BEFORE I purchased the book lol.

The more authentic meanings of the translation of Quran in English is "The Noble Quran"by Taqiuddin Hilali and Muhsin Khan...

None of the Quran "translations" can ever be accurate. Below is the reason why.

No translation of the Quran is 100% accurate. As Arthur J. Arbery states 'Qur'an cannot be translated, merely interpreted'

Try to compare it with as many translations as possible. You don't have to buy other translations, compare it online; here is the link, this site has got about 10 different translations.

I know that no translated Kora can be 100% acurite that's why I added "As he can be anyway" lol But the idea of surfing the net to get other translations is a good one, thanks for that suggestion.

Salam Sister Laura,

Try this website: http://www.islamicstudies.info/tafheem.php

This one not just has translation of Quran but also contains explanation of verses and this gives a much better picture and background of the Quranic verses.
On the top there is also an "Intro" button, this explains the Chapter as a whole and gives its background etc. I have found it very helpful.

I am glad you have ordered a copy of Quran for yourself, :ma: but you don't have to wait for the book to arrrive... you can start today by going to this website. I pray to God All-Mighty to give you guidance towards the truth.

Hope this information will help you, InshaAllah.
And if you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask us.

Wassalam.

Yusuf Ali is a very famous translation, but it can have some hard english words!

Personal tip: when reading the qur'an start from the back and work your way through the 114 chapters to the front. This is because the starting chapters have pretty complex issues, but if you start understanding it bit by bit, it should be okay.
It's your choice. :)

just wanted to mention that many may direct you to different sources of interpretation. This is fine. I commend you for taking the initiative to learn.

One element that I feel is important though, is guidance is from Allah(The God) all praise to Him. Without His mercy man would be at a loss. Having said that, a simple an very important prayer that everybody should make:

Ask Allah(God) to guide you and all of us to His way of life.
