Ok so My maghrib time 7:25 PM and Fajr is 5:12 AM and I went to a website and it calculated that its about 9 hours and 47 minutes from Maghrib to Fajr. Although Im not sure if this calculation is correct. But seem close though.

So then I took One third that number and it came out to be approc 3.16...So does that mean one third of the night is at 3:16 AM ?!? Do correct me :)

should we calculate from maghrib to fajr or isha to fajr? not sure.

if u r calculating frm maghrib and get 10 hrs approx. that means last third of night is from 2 AM approx until fajr.

Allah knows best

Just find the time of Magrib and Fajr. Calculate the difference of them and divide it by 3. Then take away first two parts and u will find when the third part of the night starts.

For example, if the difference between Magrib and Fajr is 9 hours, when you divide it by 3, you will get 3 hours in each part. So count 6 hours from Magrib (first 2 parts) and it starts from there.

The length of night differs from place to place. That is the reason why I explained it like that. Hope you got it.

Calculating the start of the Last Third of the Night

As-salamu `alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu,

In order to provide ease in determining the beginning of the Last Third of the Night, I incorporated this calculation into my Salat Times page:

haqqrocks.com/time.php

This page is a free service and caters to the Muslims living in predominantly non-Muslim countries, thus the focus on the US and Europe. I'm constantly adding new non-US locations, so please be patient if your city is not listed.

Jazakum Allah Khayr
