perhaps you have to be from a certain background to apprecaite the joke. In a joint family in the asian society the new bride has to carry out all the work mentioned in that joke.

yes, but sometimes it goes too far. Everyone starts living it easy, and the poor new bride has to cook and clean for everyone, as if she's not a new bride, but a new servant. *That* is going too far sometimes, but islamically, while it is good to do all this, its not required for her to become a servant. She just has responsibility to the husband and children, and to be kind to his parents, but she doesn't have to cook and clean for her husband's brothers and sisters!

correct! this has been borrowed from hinduism i think.
i just dont understand why would a man would force his wife to take care of his parents. oye my parents are my ticket to jannah, so hands off! wife's ticket is her husband.
