Assalamo alaikum.

During this winter session i am taking a Black Studies class "Religion and Survival".

The contents which i have read or watched so far are B.S. However there are few things which are deep. I have taken out some paragraphs from the book "Adam by Adam" by Adam Clayton Powell for you to read.

Please take out some time to read these contents with full attention

Assalaam walaikum,

Black studies are important to learn and discuss. One is able to read the brilliant minds that are forgotten in mainstream history. The culture of the slaves has given the world so much and asked nothing in return.

Black studies always gives us an understanding of the role of Islam in the history of the United States.

Adam Clayton Powell was a powerful man. His words are thought provoking. I need to go back and research his relationship with Malcolm X.

I took a Black Studies class my last semester, black studies 1 I think. It was really informative and interesting. The only thing I didn't like was how we had to read a book that reaaaally slammed Muslims/Arabs/Islam in less than two chapters. It was really angering and stupid...but on the otherhand the midterm
And exam we gave lots of definition questions on lots of Islamic things...

Assalaam walaikum,

You have peeked my interest. Would you be kind enough to post a reply with the title of the book and the author. I would love to read the book and speak to the author.

Saalam Sis,

The book is titled, "the slave community" plantation life in the antebellum south". The author is John W. Blassingame. I don't think you can speak to him since he's dead though. But maybe his son Im not sure...

Assalaam walaikum,

I did a little reading. It seems that the author, as many, lumped all slaves into one category and little else. The author was unfamiliar with the vastness of the Muslim world. The author did not delve into the culture of Islam in the slave world.
Thus, his inability to see the wonder of Islam amongst the slaves led him to write in error i.e draw poor conclusions.

Thanks for your time.
