growing up in the west in a cold climate area, we ask a question what is so special about a palm tree and why are there so many correlations to a palm tree in Islam.
well the one thing the Arabs knew was the palm tree. So Allah, swt, related to them to what they knew very well. This made it easier for them to structure behavior and attitudes to live their life as a Muslim.
Out of the many qualities is one that is very important to know. The palm tree stands tall and high. It doesn't have a huge trunk like other trees. However, when fierce wind blows the top of the palm tree will bang on the ground and be subjected to the force exerted on it.
There is an amazing quality of Palm trees reaching the ground. It gets right back UP after being knocked down!
Allah and his rasool, PBUH, have used so many examples in Quran and Hadith for us to ponder on, making reflection on the palm tree. The good Muslim is like the palm tree is resonated in many qualities and attributes.
So the Muslim is encouraged to be successful, just like the palm tree always getting right back up in a storm, we must get right back up when knocked down. being it is oppressors (social and political), failed goals, or accidents. We must live as WINNERS (just like the palm tree gets right back up) not as whiners or complainers.
