Court Question

I hope all of you are having wonderful Ramadan and your Eman is good and full. I have a quick question about testifying in court. I have to go to court on Sept 1st over my husbands probation violation and testify what happened that day. That in itself is not an issue, it will make my husband mad at me as he sees the issue closed but the court feels otherwise. When I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, is it ok for me to put my hand on a Bible or should I bring a Qu'ran for that?

They should have a Quran already in the courtroom.

but perhaps just in case, bring your own. Just explain to the Judge that you are muslim.

Sadly I live in a very rural area here in Northern California and I think I am the only Muslim in about 100 mile radius. If they have a Qu'ran there I would be downright shocked.

Assalamu allaicumu wa raahmatullah wa baarakatuhu dear sister

In Islam, we are thought to swear only with Allah, and it is not allowed to us to swear even with Quran but only with the name of Allah.

That is why you dear sister you should only explain to court that you are a Muslim, that you can not swear with other people religion book, and that it is enough for you to swear only by Allah in accordiance with our Islamic belifs.

May Allah help you dear sister

typically, you are asked to put your hand on the Holy book, and swear or promise to tell the truth.

i don't live in California, but i assume that they will give you the option to "affirm" instead of swear, as they do in my jurisdiction. If you choose to affirm then you do not need to put your hand on the Quran.

The house of Justice will follow the respective's religion holy book to swear upon.
Here you are a muslim they will definately use the holy qur'an for you to swear upon.
The holy qur'an serve as a withness to
how true we testify to our story.

The bible will be use for those who are Christian.

~May Allah swt help and guide
you and your family~Amin!

Shouldn't they have an alternative method than having people swear by religious books? I'm sure in this secular day and age, they must have a lot of people come in to testify that don't even believe in God, so it shouldn't be an issue, perhaps. ?
