What do you desire in Duniya?

Seeking Allah's Mercy

Qul HuwaAllahu Ahud!
Asalamoalaikom wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

It was narrated that ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet :saw: said: “By Allaah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, rather what I fear for you is that worldly riches may be given to you as they were given to those who came before you, and you will compete for them with one another as they competed with one another, and you will be destroyed as they were destroyed.” [Bukhaari (2988) and Muslim (2961)]

Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allaah have mercy on him) said concerning the lessons learned from this hadeeth:
Competition in worldly gains may lead to destruction of religious commitment. [Fath al-Baari (6/263)]

And he said:
Ibn Battaal said: This shows that the one to whom the delights of this world open up should beware of their bad consequences and the evil of their temptation, and he should not be at ease with its adornments or compete with others for them. [Fath al-Baari (11/245)]

Allaah says in the Quraan:

The example of [this] worldly life is but like rain which We have sent down from the sky that the plants of the earth absorb - [those] from which men and livestock eat - until, when the earth has taken on its adornment and is beautified and its people suppose that they have capability over it, there comes to it Our command by night or by day, and We make it as a harvest, as if it had not flourished yesterday. Thus do We explain in detail the signs for a people who give thought. [Surah yunus: 24]

The one who is distracted from the Hereafter by worldly pursuits is a loser, for this world is but play and there is nothing lasting or perfect in it; the Hereafter is better and more lasting. Allaah has likened this world to the plants which grow and flourish, then they soon become straw scattered by the wind; there is nothing lasting for man in this world, hence he must make the Hereafter his goal.

The Prophet of Allaah :saw: said:

A person who led the most prosperous life in this world will be brought up and dipped once in the Fire. He will then be asked: `Have you ever found any good or comfort' He will reply: `No.' And a person who had experienced extreme adversity in this world will be brought up and dipped once in the bliss (of Paradise). Then he will be asked: 'Did you ever face any hardship or misery' He will reply: `No.' [Muslim]

[yt]jN30k2zUlU4[/yt]

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion. [Surah Al-hadeed :20]

Good thread, but money is also important. i want to be rich so that i can provide for my family and my parents. when the stomach is empty, then such things only happen to be exceptions. poverty is a curse nowadays. MAy Allah keep us safe from it

brother...the meaning of the post is not to live in poverty. prophet (peace be upon him) himself used to seek refuge in Allah against poverty.

what the post say is that too much wealth corrupts the person's deen. you can see nowdays....its completely evident.... too much spending, wasting, drinking, affairs, jealousy, hatred, laziness, etc.

if you look in to the masjid...u ll find that most of them are not very rich :)

Brother, the very first hadeeth explains it, The problem is not of being in possession of money but the problem is "I fear for you is that worldly riches may be given to you". . ."and you will compete for them with one another as they competed with one another,".

It is clear that What the prophet:saw: feared for us was competing against one another to have a higher status in Duniya instead of Akhira. If a person has money and he's spending it solely to have a higher status in Akhira, then he's to be envied as per the Prophet's :saw: Ahadeeth.

'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Messenger of Allah, :saw, said, "You can only have envy for two things: for a man to whom Allah has given wealth which he spends in the way of the truth, and for a man to whom Allah has given wisdom and he acts by it and teaches it." [Agreed upon]

Infact in most cases the wealthy are better than the poor and wealth is a favor of Allaah:

Abu Hurayra reported that the poor Muhajirun came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, "The wealthy have appropriated the high degrees and abiding bliss." He said, "How is that?" He said, "They pray as we pray and they fast as we fast, but they give sadaqa and we do not give sadaqa and they set free slaves and we do not set free slaves." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Shall I inform you of something by which you will overtake those who have preceded you and precede those who come after you and no one will be better than you unless he does the same as you do?" They said, "By all means, Messenger of Allah." He said, "You should say 'Glory be to Allah,' 'Praise be to Allah,' and 'Allah is greater' thirty-three times after every prayer." The poor Muhajirun then returned to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said, "Our brothers who possess property heard about what we were doing and they have done the same." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "That is a favour which Allah gives to anyone He wills." [Agreed upon]

However one must not become obsessed with it. Compare yourself and your condition with the Prophet:saw: and His conditions, with the companions may Allah be pleased with them and Their conditions. Which one of us was more poor, who went hungry more often, who had no job, no land, no business for a longer period of time. Whose families were larger. . .And then which one of us is more important and beloved to Allaah? Who is higher in status in Duniya and Akhira? Who spend all that they had for His sake, though compared to us they had nothing.

If they can be faced with such trail even though they were best of the people. why can't we? Money won't hold importance and becoming rich won't be a problem when we only want to please Allaah and fear him and not poverty. Taqwa is the only key through which we can be rich in duniya and Akhira as then "Allah will provide from sources you can never think of".

May Allaah aid you in achieving that which will lead to his pleasure and a high place in Jannah.

Jazak'Allah Khayr!

May Allaah (SWT) rewards you with greater blessings, Ameen!

I live in Canada, and it's true that how too much wealth manage to overcome their faith, and which is why wealth should be utilized for the greater reasons, like helping poor people, invest in Qur'aan printing company, and many more valuables. All of these will bring you closer to Allaah (SWT) spiritually, and therefore, that will strengthen your faith.

I am glad Islam has taken over my heart before i set out to have fine career future, Insha'Allaah, and at least, i am prepared. Praise be to Allaah (SWT) - Lord of the Worlds!

Great video. :) Brother Bilal Assad's lectures are really good. I have a question though.. A while ago I watched one of his lectures (I think it was the priority one but I'm not sure), and he was talking about music. Then he said in Jannah, Allah swt will *sing* to the believers. I've never heard of this.. Anyone know of a hadith or something that says so?

What about the fact that Islam does not discourage you from working hard and earning good money, even getting rich. Some of the sahabas were millionaires if not billionaires. How about sharing some info on that, that it's ok to work to get rich.
