[ASK]How Abdurrahman become so rich?

First, I want to introduce my self. I'm Ahmad Fahriza, from Indonesia.

Second, because I'm not from somewhere which talk English language, please forgive me if my English is bad :)

For maybe 5 years I have known Abdurrahman ibn Awf, the most richest sahaba.
And for that time also, I live almost in frustation. Why? Because different from like Prophet Muhammad which we can take many example from him, I found too little example to "how to be rich" from Abdurrahman ibn Awf.

Of course, in this modern world, there is many ways to be rich. But in my research, it just rich. Not very very very very rich, or in case of Abdurrahman, very very very rich and uncorrupted by his wealth.

I'm very curious, what attitude Abdurrahman have? How can he be not interested in world wealth, while at the same time, have the title the most richest sahaba? It just... like two side of coin. Too different. How we can learn anything from him?

And really, how he can be so rich? When Moslem forced to hijrah to Medina, Abdurrahman left anything he have in Mecca. He then sells lamps in Medina. How can a man, have nothing from the start, then suddenly have 700 caravan camels? And he give the camels to the Medina people too! What skill, trick, attitude, or anything that can turn nothing to something?

I'm appreciate if you help me, even if it just a little.

And if you ask me why I'm obsessed to him, not Prophet, make no mistake. Of course I must learn something from Prophet.
But in a way to "conquering" the world, I feel that I must learn from Abdurrahman.
And because I believe Islam can be reach in many way, deep inside, I feel that the way of the rich, the one who help the unlucky one through his wealth, is more like me than any way.

Any criticism and support is well apreciated. Thank you.
And thank you to read this rather long post.

wa alaykkum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

welcome to the forum, may Allah increase you in beneficial knowledge.

as for the bolded part, 'Why Not?'. It's not like he turned rich overnight. The day of caravan of 700 camels happened only after the death of rasool Allah (peace n blessing be upon Him). If you think about it, there should be atleast ten years gap before he started his trade in Madina and the time when a caravan of 700 camels happened. From what i have read, Abdur Rahman ibn awf is skilled and efficient merchant. At the same time, he is the companion, may Allah be pleased with him, to whom when food was brought in his later times, cried and feared that his reward were being given back to him in his lifetime. Subhan Allah.

Hmm. Ten or more years eh? When I read the story, I think it must be about more than 5 years, but less than 10 years, and when Prophet still alive. But if it more than ten years, well, it make more sense. Although if we compare caravan to truck, I really don't know who in modern time can turn from nothing to 700 truck in ten years And give the truck to the people. :D

Brother Ilyas, may I ask you which story it is?
I know from story when he sells lamps that he humble and hardworking. But I don't know if there any story that Abdurrahman is efficient. Of course, rich people must be skilled and efficient. It just... hmm... how can I say it? I need the "hard lesson" :D:D:D

Thank you for your support. And wassalaamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh

wa alaykkum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

I read it in the book, "men around the messenger(pbuh)"... It doesn't say he was 'efficient' but what was written there implies that he was very successful in trading... to get a better idea kindly get hold of the book, insha Allah.
