Where to begin? That's easy. Start by getting a translation of Qur'an and reading it. Start here. It real small book and very easy to understand. If you want to have a go at topics. Make Tawheed your very first topic of research. Tawheed is what Islam stands on, it means "Oness of Allaah", same message as of Jesus, Moses and Ibrahim (May Allaah bless them all).

The Holy Qur'an describes this concept in only four clear verses:

Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): "He is Allah, (the) One. "Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). "He begets not, nor was He begotten; "And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him." [Surah Ikhlaas;1-4]
